Position Purpose

Description

Schwan's is hiring a Category Manager, to be based in our Bloomington, MN offices. In this customer-facing role, while leading a team of internal and broker resources, you will function as an expert in the frozen pizza, frozen desserts, and/or frozen snacks category. As part of the home office insights center of excellence, every day will bring a variety of opportunities for your thought leadership. Your critical thinking skills will grow as you build strategic rationales using your objective Consumer - and Shopper-centric analytics. Your influence will be based on factual insights which will help drive profitable growth for retailers and for Schwan’s.


Responsibilities

  • Develop customer-facing category presentations complete with actionable recommendations
    • Incorporating multiple data sources
    • Integrating custom shopper research
    • Market and industry trends
    • Competitive review
    • Promotions
    • Pricing Analysis
    • Seasonality
  • Present consumer, shopper and category insights in a comfortable, positive, influential manner
  • Influence retailers and internal partners around optimal assortment (Regionality, space-to-sales, retailer differentiation strategy, shopper affinity, etc.)
  • Provide business situation assessment that is leveraged in joint business plan development with key stakeholders
  • Tracking and delivery of weekly/monthly retailer category performance scorecard
  • Ensure retailer’s category strategies are appropriately communicated internally (Upstream/downstream)
  • Cultivate multiple internal and external relationships across the retailer and within the Schwan’s organization
  • Direct and manage broker partners
  • Some travel (10%)

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent. MBA preferred

Years of Related Experience: Minimum 5 years related experience encompassing both category management and shopper insights functional roles (CPG Preferred). 2+ years planning and executing modular relays on Advisory team

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to influence and lead peers
  • Ability to make decisions including the prioritization of projects, allocation of department resources, and acceptable risk levels
  • Must be able to interact with industry personnel and represent the company well
  • Must be a self-starter and able to lead the department on a daily basis
  • Highly proficient/expertise in retrieval and manipulation of syndicated data and its dimensions
  • AC Nielsen, NITRO, IRI Analyzer; competent in understanding traditional statistical formulas and mathematical measurements
  • Strong abilities to graphically illustrate complex relationships from disaggregated data
  • Experience and working knowledge of secondary research, market research methodologies and processes
  • Ability to interpret and leverage Homescan Panel purchase dynamics;
  • Above average skills in MS PowerPoint and Excel
  • Competent in using Space Management Software (Spectra, JDA, Apollo etc) Word and Outlook
  • Ability to research multiple and unknown data sources and synthesize large amounts of data
  • Identifies cause and effect within data relationships to isolate issue drivers
  • Clearly communicate orally and in writing with all levels of management.
