BRABO Restaurant are passionately committed to offering the freshest, safest ingredients, presenting a seasonal menu, in an unpretentious fine dining atmosphere. We offer three outlets for guests to choose from- a casual neighborhood bistro with busy patio and the main restaurant with a bar and brasserie for upscale casual dining and drinks focused on a robust classic cocktail program and the formal dining room with an extensive wine list which has garnered the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. We are looking for a Sommelier to champion not only our high standards for quality and integrity but also a polished, warm, and genuine service of all beverages.

The Sommelier is responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective service of our wine and beverage program, ensuring it generates revenue and profits.

Duties and Supporting Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate and promote Kimpton's culture, always positively representing the Company
  • In a leadership role, this position is to provide the highest quality service to guests at all times. Maintain integrity of service, touch tables while on the floor to solicit feedback. Responsible as lead authority on floor regarding service quality
  • Promotes positive public/employee relations at all times, genuinely displaying compassion, care, and accountability
  • Maintains a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment within area of responsibility
  • Promote teamwork within the restaurant, creating a positive work environment that is fun, engaging and highly tuned to detail
  • Treat every customer, employee and vendor with respect and dignity, always embodying our core values
  • Ensure the highest levels of organization and cleanliness are maintained in the dining room and bar at all times, without exception
  • Perform other job-related activities as required or assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain mental athleticism for coordination with Hosts, Server and Managers to seat guests in a warm hospitable manner, while also anticipating the needs of the restaurant, in order to provide excellent dining experiences
  • Strong communication and listening skills to effectively deliver accurate messaging to both guests and teammates
  • Have a desire to build a base knowledge and understanding of classic cookery, wine, beer and cocktails
  • Derives pleasure from providing hospitality and being the face of the restaurant
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leadership
  • responsible for assisting in developing a cohesive team of managers and staff who are working towards the common goals of the restaurant.
  • Personnel
  • Recruiting and Hiring
  • Maintaining appropriate staffing levels and remaining abreast of any changes which may impact staffing needs
  • Assisting with recruiting and hiring of high-quality employees, including managers, and maintaining a system to ensure the proper processing of all newly hired employees
  • Training
  • Teaching and coaching all employees and managers on an ongoing basis, at weekly classes and daily lineups
  • Underscoring the importance of thorough and complete training for all employees
  • Develop and maintain reward and recognition programs for employee incentives on sales, service, and teamwork
  • Customer Focus
  • Meet the expectations and requirements of our guests, always acting with our guests in mind. Establish and maintain effective relationships with guests and ensure excellent service at all times.
  • Manage the list of guest preferences and work with our guests to select the best complement to their dining experience
  • Work with private parties and banquets department to create unique and special offerings for events
  • Administration
  • Ensuring that entire beverage program meets pricing and cost goals, remains effective and profitable
  • Weekly and monthly financial reporting
  • Organization and maintenance of inventory and cellars, managing product rollover, mandated products and keeping all lists up to date and organized
  • Thoroughly documenting all incidents, including counseling sessions
  • Technical Knowledge - must be proficient in the following:
  • Table Management System -- OpenTable/GuestCenter preferred
  • POS Systems -- Aloha/InfoGenesis preferred
  • Avero
  • Product Knowledge of food and beverage, Service technique, Salesmanship
The ideal candidate possesses:
  • Experience in various capacities of restaurant staff strongly preferred
  • Excellent Emotional Self Awareness under pressure while maintaining a graceful, warm presence
  • Curious Intelligence to continue learning in the position
  • Open availability and a career mentality
  • A heightened sense of empathy to be able to convert the guest's communication into "Raves"
  • 1-2 years fine-dining experience in a Sommelier or wine-focused position
  • An advanced education or certification in wine studies
Other Requirement
  • May be required to lift up to 30lbs. occasionally
  • Available to work late nights, holidays and long days as necessary
  • Able to stand for a 12-14 hour shift
  • Able to work independently and make the right decisions for the business
  • Must be mentally organized and thoughtful in actions, display good judgment in the moment
