Position Overview

The key responsibilities of the Maintenance Supervisor include development, alignment and implementation of reliability excellence practices/programs, prevention, maintenance and repair, project planning, contractor/vendor management, best practice application, training and support and people management.

The maintenance supervisor is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the maintenance crafts team (mechanics & electricians, where applicable) and plays a key role in improving the reliability of the entire facility. They oversee the daily operation of the craftspeople with the maintenance lead/daily work coordinator making sure safety, repair & work documentation expectations are met. They also provide technical and troubleshooting support as needed. Additionally, they are responsible for removing barriers so craftspeople can do their best job possible, coaching them through their performance and development goals, and managing department overtime.

The maintenance supervisor should also partner with department supervisors to maintain a good line of communication between departments, be a strong technical resource around equipment modifications & specifications regarding reliability, understand their concerns about maintenance, their work performance expectations, and how they are being serviced. They are also responsible for supporting & developing PdM technologies and the maintenance & reliability of plant general and maintenance department assets. They should be a champion in maintenance work flow management, process honoring, and have the ability to coach their peers and direct reports through the process.

Principal Accountabilities

35% Operational Effectiveness / Prevent, Maintain & Repair

* Using established guidelines and protocols, supervises preventative maintenance and reliability activities. Interfaces and coordinates with other departments, personnel facility management, contractors, community and local regulators to ensure asset health and availability.

* In accordance with BU/plant maintenance and reliability strategies, standards and practices provides clear instruction and direction and participates in routine ongoing maintenance activities and recordkeeping to ensure asset health and adherence to guidelines, codes, regulations, requirements and overall production quality.

* Provides clear instruction, direction and participates in the execution of routine repair procedures and tasks to ensure compliance with the fundamental plant reliability strategies, standards and practices.

* Monitors repairs through systems and controls (ie. CMMS) to ensure work orders and requests are executed in accordance to established work flow.

* Reviews and assists in analyzing maintenance/reliability metrics and performance. Supports audit compliances, root cause analysis processes within the maintenance team, which includes tracking and reporting on established metrics (ie. Asset Health index, Total Maintenance Cost/RAV, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and audit compliance).

* Partners with BU/Reliability Engineering and other senior Manufacturing Excellence team members to recommend ideas and provide input for strategies on operations of assigned areas (ie. electrical, mechanical, systems, operations, etc)

25% Training & Support, Best Practices Application

* Maintains and applies consistent maintenance and reliability best practices (ie. safety programs, routine safety audits, RCM methodology and FMEA to determine optimum defect elimination strategies)

* Developing knowledge of and is responsible for gaining awareness of the latest innovations, technology and trends for maintenance and reliability practices.

* Identifies training opportunities, needs and facilitates training sessions for maintenance personnel, focusing on skills training and development, safety practices and work standards.

* Supports operations by identifying and reviewing failures, downtime and lost production and partners with more senior team members to identify opportunities to improve reliability and/or determine acceptable risk tolerance for assets.

15% Reliability Excellence Governance

* Promotes a culture that builds, operates and maintains plants that are operationally sound, safe and reliable. Implements leading and reliability excellence practices and aggressively raises the performance of poor departments by monitoring key performance indicators.

* Supports/implements Reliability Excellence processes for the Maintenance department and ensures the reliability culture is foundational to operations. Enforces common reliability processes and metrics (focus on eliminating the root cause of reliability problems, etc) to achieve targeted results from continuous improvement practices, and validates the importance of Reliability Excellence through key successes (scorecard and metrics control, total cost of maintenance, total cost of ownership, monthly review of compliance audits, etc).

15% People and Budget Management

* Responsible for the people management of the maintenance department including recruiting, retention, development and engagement of team

* Responsible for the appropriate scheduling and delegation of activities for a team of maintenance & reliability employees and 3rd party contractors.

* Establishes and manages maintenance budget. Has responsibility for a subset of cost control of repairs and maintenance and also maintenance labor and parts.

10% Project Planning, Contractor/Vendor Management

* Manages ongoing maintenance and reliability related projects (ie. asset reliability and defect elimination) utilizing general knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices and procedures

* Participates in capital project planning, cost estimation, tracking and payback justification.

* Assists and provides recommendations on selection of contractors/vendors. Supports maintenance vendor issues and contract administration.

Required

* Bachelor's degree OR 5 years of experience in maintenance and/or production operations in lieu of a degree

* 1 year experience Microsoft Office

* 1 year experience in maintenance leadership, planning or equivalent in a manufacturing environment

* Project management skills and the ability to work within and improve upon processes / systems.

* Demonstrated knowledge / working understanding of manufacturing and operational processes.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills.

* Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems using formal techniques to evaluate systems, equipment, and failures.

* Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as MAXIMO, SAP, etc.

Preferred

* Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification

* Experience using Reliability Centered Maintenance techniques, Root Cause Analysis, and Predictive Maintenance technologies. (e.g. Vibration analysis, infrared, acoustic emissions, tribology, etc.) to create a proactive work environment that is focused on continuous improvement at best cost.
