An Auto Painter is responsible for proper preparation of surfaces and application of painting materials to a variety of exterior surfaces. The auto body painter will need to have collision repair capabilities, repairing, refinishing and straightening vehicle body and frames.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities-
File, grind, sand, and smooth filled or repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools.
Sand body areas to be painted and cover bumpers, windows, and trim with masking tape or paper to protect them from the paint.
Remove damaged sections of vehicles using metal-cutting guns, air grinders and wrenches, and install replacement parts using wrenches or welding equipment.
Position dolly blocks against surfaces of dented areas and beat opposite surfaces to remove dents, using hammers.
Mix polyester resins and hardeners to be used in restoring damaged areas.
Fit and secure windows, vinyl roofs, and metal trim to vehicle bodies, using caulking guns, adhesive brushes, and mallets.
Remove grease, dirt, paint, or rust from vehicle surfaces in preparation for paint application, using abrasives, solvents, brushes, blowtorches, washing tanks, or sandblasters.
Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers and decorative or finish coatings.
Sand vehicle surfaces between coats of paint or primer to remove flaws and enhance adhesion for subsequent coats.
Select paint according to company requirements and match paint colors, following specified color charts.
Replace damaged glass on vehicles.
Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner.
Required Qualifications-
Education-
High School Diploma or GED
Must have a minimum of 3 or more years of experience as an auto body painter.
Experience/Skills-
Knowledge of the processes, techniques and materials used in painting automotive equipment.
Knowledge of the proper methods of preparing automotive equipment for painting.
Knowledge of the proper methods of caring for spray guns and other auto painting equipment and materials.
A good knowledge of safety precautions required in performing the work of the trade.
The ability to mix and match paints; the ability to prepare auto body surfaces for painting.
Competencies-
Must make safety a priority.
Must have good command of the English language, oral and written.
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with high quality performance.
Must be able to solve problems using critical problem solving techniques.
Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment.
Supervisory Responsibility-
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.
Physical Requirements-
Arm-Hand Steadiness - The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
Extent Flexibility - The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

Control Precision - The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
Steel Toe Boots Required.
