Quality Inspector / Technician

Responsibilities:
  1. Perform in-process inspections including dimensional verification and coating inspections; perform non-destructive testing (NDT) when required; maintain records of inspections and results.
  2. Visual Inspection of welded joints of work in progress and of completed units for visible defects, correct dimensions, weld size, bead formation, weld penetration, and conformance with layout, blueprint, and work order specifications. Examine joint to detect flaws, such as cracks, cold weld, spatter, and undercuts, using flashlight and magnifying glass.
  3. Assist with calibration of all inspection instruments and gauges and update records.
  4. Interact directly with all customer assigned inspectors; manage the scheduling of inspections and provide all necessary project documentation as requested by the inspector.
  5. Perform product testing and photograph/document results.
  6. Review material test reports (MTR).
  7. Assist with off-site testing by helping QA Administrator when needed. (weld procedures, welder qualification, Charpy impact testing and any required tests that cannot be performed in-house).
  8. Assist with the training and certification of welders.
  9. Communicate and report to QA Administrator and quality personnel in regard to quality related issues.
  10. Assist with inspection of ISIR (initial sample inspection report) and complete/submit documentation.


Qualifications (education, experience, skills, personal attributes):
  1. High School Diploma
  2. Experience in a manufacturing/steel fabrication environment.
  3. Working knowledge of arc welding processes for carbon, stainless and alloy metals.
  4. Knowledgeable in both liquid and powder type coatings.
  5. Familiarity with ASTM specifications, AWWA standards and AWS/ASME welding codes.
  6. Able to perform NDT evaluations: dye-penetrant, magnetic particle, dry film thickness and others that may be required by the project contract/specifications. (Level II would be ideal)
  7. Good understanding of shop math (fraction to decimal) and ability to read tape measure.
  8. Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
  9. Good written and oral communication skills.
  10. Good interpersonal skills and problem solving capabilities.
  11. Must be able to work independently, efficiently and be self-motivated and detail oriented.
