The Sales Manager is responsible for promoting the sale of the hotel's facilities, by soliciting and generating group business from all market segments. This position is responsible for prospecting, sales calls, selling, negotiations, closing sales, servicing a sale and meeting specified budgetary goals set in place each year. The role will require that the Sales Manager will know how to make a profitable sales call, how to negotiate and how to overcome objections. The Sales Manager will know to service a sale by acting as the primary liaison between the Meeting Planner and the staff of the property while focusing on meeting-specific expectations. The Sales Manager must have a complete understanding of the product, competition, the local market and the needs of the market. This management position requires that the person is a role model of the hotel and holds employees accountable to following our Mission, Core Values and Policies and Procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish contacts with individuals, companies, associations, etc., who have never used the hotel to promote the use of the hotel's facilities through telephone contact and direct sales solicitation, trade shows, networking or other methods.

  • Establish contacts with former accounts with a view to regaining their room and banquet business, if applicable. Maintain continuous rapport between hotel and clients by maintaining trace and follow-up systems.

  • Site inspections. These calls are scheduled appointments and the majority prearranged by prospective clients. Set-up site inspections and enthusiastically sell the hotel, including all food outlets. This would include assisting with familiarization trips for groups of meeting planners, travel agents and travel writers.

  • Daily, Weekly, Quarterly and other required meetings with Director of Marketing & Sales to coordinate future trade shows, review Group Rooms Control log, Booking Status and discuss sales opportunities.

  • Responsible for maintaining and communicating effectively with other hotel departments to include, but not limited to, Banquet, Culinary and Front Office.

  • Schedule pre-planned sales calls to targeted feeder markets to generate potential business.

  • Responsible for upper management reports including Groups Room Control Log, Revenue Consumption and other required reports.

  • Customers are to be greeted upon arrival or before the start of their meetings and several times throughout duration of the meeting by the sales manager, to solicit repeat business for the future and ensure.

  • Responsible for the complete booking of a meeting/function.
  • Obtain correct information.

  • Check file for previous activity.

  • Check for sleeping room and function space availability.

  • Contract and cover letter/email typed, all appropriate information is then reviewed by salesperson, approved by the Director of Sales and then forwarded to the client.

  • Once confirmed, salesperson must secure a signed contract, credit application and terms and conditions and monitors group. Group is then detailed, by developing Resume and BEO's as necessary.

  • Once function is completed, trace for evaluation follow-up.

  • Call reports updated in sales CRM by salesperson for every outside, telephone, or walk-in contract.

  • A weekly snapshot report is submitted each Friday to the Director of Sales, which recaps the week's activities and production to assigned goals.

  • Sales leads from the CVB, intermediaries, and other sources are followed up for new business. Establish good business relationship with outside representation firms.

  • Responsible for attending meetings and functions sponsored by the various organizations of which Sales Managers are members.

  • Attend sales, BEO, Revenue and pre-convention meetings and other meetings as required.

  • Have complete product knowledge of competitive hotels.

  • Entertain clients when necessary for the purpose of familiarizing them with our property and closing the potential booking.

  • Responsible for achieving or exceeding assigned Sales Production and Activity goals.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with the Greater Naples, Marco Island and Everglades Convention Visitor's Bureau and the Naples Chamber of Commerce. Attend Networking events to uncover new business.

  • Attend trade shows pertinent to assigned Market Segment. Attend all meetings, seminars and functions in order to meet more planners.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends. Make recommendations for changes that would improve operations at the resort. Subscribe to and read industry publications.

  • Develop new accounts by being inquisitive regarding spin-off meetings from corporations and associations.

  • Maintain a working relationship with other departments on property that interact with groups to better serve the client.

  • Any other duties reasonably assigned by the Director of Sales

Requirements:

  • College degree preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience/training.

  • Knowledge of a hotel structure and how all departments interact.

  • Meeting and event operations/planning/coordination experience.

  • Expert Knowledge of Hotel Sales Pro preferred, Hyatt Envision, Lanyon

  • Proficient in computer use, including the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to listen, speak and write in English to ascertain and respond to vendor's needs.

  • Ability to analyze data and communicate effectively with peers and supervisors in a positive manner.

  • Ability to work any assigned shift/work schedule.
