Uncertified Anesthesia Technician - Surgical Services -Celebration - Evenings

AdventHealth Celebration seeks to hire Anesthesia Technician - Noncertified who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Established in 1997 and now a 203-bed hospital, AdventHealth Celebration Health was designed as a Mediterranean resort-style facility to serve as a cornerstone of health in Disney's planned community of Celebration, Florida. Department Profile:

Our state-of-the-art Surgical Services area is a diverse and exciting department serving both the general and specialty surgery populations. We handle a wide range of procedures including orthopedics, gynecology, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, urology, peripheral/vascular, plastic-cosmetic, oncology, pediatrics, laser, plastic reconstructive, podiatry, bariatric and neurosurgery. Designed for optimal treatment and patient care, our facilities consist of several units dedicated to specific stages of the surgical services process. AdventHealth Celebration Health performs robotic surgical procedures, minimally invasive surgery, telesurgeries and webcasts. We began our Global Robotics Institute in January 2008, with two robots in the main OR. The rooms are fully integrated via Storz OR1 to allow for connectivity with our educational center, off-site entities and other facilities.

Job Summary:

The Noncertified Anesthesia Technician assists the licensed anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. Anesthesia Technicians provide support in anesthesia for routine and complex surgical cases. The Anesthesia Technician prepares and maintains patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. The Technician maintains equipment and provides servicing such as cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, calibrating and testing, troubleshooting, requisitioning and recording of inspections and maintenance of anesthesia equipment. May operate a variety of mechanical, pneumatic and electronic equipment used to monitor, evaluate and manage the patient undergoing anesthesia. The anesthesia tech participates in Operating/Procedure room turnover and performs activities as directed to ensure efficiency and safe patient care in Surgery/Procedure environment. Provides supply management. Including stocking of non-narcotics medications. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.
  • Ability to set priorities and respond to stressful situations (Preferred)
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure in a stressful environment (Preferred)
  • Experience working with patients in an acute care setting or operating room. (Preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • BLS

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Anesthesiologist or CRNA assists anesthesia professional staff as requested: Assists in preparation and draping of patient for invasive monitoring/ procedures by licensed anesthesia providers. Assists and anticipates needs of licensed anesthesia providers in invasive monitor insertion and procedures such as pulmonary artery catheter, central venous access, regional anesthesia, fiber optic intubation and is familiar with the ASA Difficult Airway Algorithm. Anticipates need for invasive monitoring according to daily OR schedule. Aids in preparation of patients for major invasive monitoring and/ or complex cases including but not limited to placement of BP cuff, ECG leads, Pulse Oximeter, positioning. Sets up OR for cases which may include the following: Preparation of laryngoscope and intubation equipment, IV solution and tubing set-up and set up of IV warming devices. Participates in the process for blood component verification as needed.
  • Makes available, assembles, and assists with operation of specialized equipment such as humidification units; fiber optic endoscopic equipment; rapid infusion devices/blood warmers; patient warming devices; neuromuscular devices; infusion pumps and syringes; balloon pump initial setups and TEE setup.
  • Maintains and organizes the anesthesia environment, equipment, supplies and personnel to facilitate department functions. Maintains the availability of necessary equipment in each operating room. Participates in room turnovers to ensure efficient flow of cases. Provides peri-operative technical support to the anesthesia professional staff for delivery of patient care.
  • Demonstrates detailed technical knowledge and troubleshooting ability for anesthesia delivery system, scavenger system, gas analyzer, EKG, pulse oximeter and any other anesthesia related equipment. Responds to and investigates all anesthesia machine alarms. Ensures preventative maintenance is completed as required. Reports malfunctioning equipment and follows through to ensure replacement.
  • Inventories, orders and maintains departmental supply stock consistent with departmental demand. Cognizant of where supplies are kept and is able to obtain or stock them accordingly. Maintains the sterile supplies and medications within the expiration date. Ensures medications are secured at all times. Properly disposes of used medications. Monitors refrigerators utilized for stock of medications.
  • Promotes a safe environment. Demonstrates appropriate action in emergency situations, demonstrates awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors and employees, identifies and reports environmental concerns to the management team. Ensures adherence to appropriate regulatory standards and AdventHealthpolicy and procedures evidenced by maintaining appropriate documentation as required. Demonstrates knowledge of all Joint Commission standards that impact the anesthesia support role.
  • Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand washing according to policy and enforces safety regulations. Strictly adheres to all infection control practices. Demonstrates knowledge of decontamination and disinfection principles related to anesthesia equipment.
  • Provides training and orientation to staff and new personnel. Maintains competency by attending departmental in-service training. Certified Anesthesia Techs attend approved in-service education to maintain certification.
