Job Description
Our Cake Decorators provide artistry in custom cakes for our customers. This position is for a well versed decorator with a minimum of 2 years of professional cake decorating experience. You must be able to work with both buttercream and fondant. With these skills, you will create innovative designs in the form of cut-out cakes (both 2D and 3D), drawings, tiers and wedding cakes. You will work both independently and within a team to decorate cakes and other bakery treats. If you are looking for a hands-on opportunity to exercise your creativity, this is the place for you!

Company Description
1886: Adam Schmitt opens the first Schmitt family bakery in Weisloch, Germany.
1911: Son of Adam, Carl Schmitt, and wife, Anna, immigrate to Chicago and open “The New York Bakery” on Armitage Avenue. They soon have children, Hedi, and Henry. After moving to a new Chicago location near Wrigley Field, Carl Schmitt gets his son Henry involved in bakery work as a young boy. Henry soon matures into a young man and goes off to WWII, where he continues to use his baking skills, even baking for high officials. After returning from war and paying his dues at the bakery, Henry Schmitt buys the bakery from his father. He grows the business.
In the 1950s, Henry opens a larger store called “Schmitt’s Bake Shop” on Irving Park Road. It becomes known for its fine wedding and custom decorated cakes. Henry starts involving his young children as “helpers” at the bakery. By the late 50s, Henry had diligently grown the bakery to 32 Chicago-area locations. Along the way, he became a master baker and active member of the National Retail Baker’s Association.
In 1963 rapid expansion eventually caused Henry to lose his business. In 1972, after working for other bakeries, Henry started over by buying a small bakery, Deerfield Bakery, in Deerfield, Illinois. After several years of hard work and success, Henry convinced his three children: Kathi, Karl and Kurt, to join him.
By 1984, Deerfields Bakery was voted National Retail Bakery of the year.
Deerfields Bakery has since expanded to three locations in the Chicagoland area: Deerfield (1972), Buffalo Grove (1993), and Schaumburg (2000). During its expansion years, more than ten family members were involved in the business.
Five generations of the Schmitt family have carried on the family bakery tradition that Adam Schmitt started in 1886. Today, the Deerfields family includes its many dedicated employees and its “deerest” customers, all deserving of a sincere thank-you from the Schmitts.
