Trainee Appraiser - Residential Real Estate - Full-time / Part-time

Spurgeon Appraisals, a growing real estate appraisal firm based in Palmyra, MO, is looking to hire and train a Residential Real Estate Appraiser. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing Residential Real Estate Appraisals in Western Illinois and Northeast Missouri, with an emphasis on rural properties. The candidate will also be required to obtain licensure from both Missouri and Illinois as a Certified Residential Appraiser within a reasonable period after being hired.

HOURS: Full time, offers a flexible work schedule, may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION: Position will primarily research, organize, and analyze information and complete residential appraisal reports. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Successful candidate will be trained to:

• Adhere to appraisal industry rules and regulations

• Gather maps and neighborhood/community data

• Use Microsoft Word and Excel to create and analyze charts, and perform spreadsheet analysis

• Utilize appraisal form software in the preparation of reports

• Make and receive phone calls in a professional setting

• Interview property managers, real estate brokers, and other business professionals

• Visit subject properties and county courthouses to collect data (must have reliable transportation)

• Perform other appraisal-related duties as assigned or as necessary

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. Preferred majors include Business, Finance, Accounting, or related fields.

EXPERIENCE and ABILITIES: We require no experience at performing the tasks listed above; we are willing to train new employees, although we will give preference to candidates with experience in real estate, construction, lending, or related fields. However, the following skills and traits are required:

• Have attention to detail in all matters and strong organizational and analytical skills

• Write and think clearly and logically to effectively present information

• Form opinions based on market data, regardless of other outside influences

• Build professional relationships without compromising integrity or confidentiality

• Work independently, solve problems, and efficiently process information to meet critical deadlines

• Demonstrate competency with computers and information databases

• Pass a background check - no criminal record

Compensation: Compensation is based on commission, which increases as experience is gained.  The commission is paid as a percentage of the amount billed to clients.
