Job Description

Summary: Responsible for leading a shift of chemical operators in the manufacturing of quality chemical products by following operating procedures and written instructions, while utilizing standard manufacturing equipment and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for understanding the basic chemistry involved in his/her process in order to effectively monitor and troubleshoot. Operators are expected to continually upgrade their skills until they fully understand the entire plant process flow in addition to the basic chemistry of all of the plant processes.
  • Monitors process, performs required measurements and tests, monitors the operation of equipment and sets equipment controls in order to effectively produce quality products.
  • Maintains production line operation by following SOP’s, solving production process problems, making equipment adjustments, reporting production and quality data, reporting decisions made and referring questions to other team members or Managers.
  • Responsible for understanding the basic mechanical operations of his/her process in order to effectively monitor and troubleshoot. Operators are continually expected to upgrade their skills until they understand the basic mechanical aspects of the entire plant.
  • Monitors equipment operation on a day to day basis. Performs basic troubleshooting, notifying Manager and Maintenance when a situation is beyond means. Assists in the repairs to his/her equipment and other simple maintenance tasks. Participates in equipment PM and project installation as necessary.
  • Documents production and production processes by completing production log sheets, recording the receipt and usage of raw materials, and calculating material usage.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and needs.
  • Understands customer and product requirements, monitors and adjusts the process to ensure meeting these requirements.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Contributes to Team Effort by accomplishing results while maintaining a cooperative, working relationships with fellow team members
  • Understands environmental regulations and complies fully
  • Participates in all required training sessions.
  • Predictable attendance is critical to accomplishing essential functions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Production Manager, the candidate should be able to lead a shift giving guidance and instructions in the manufacturing of chemical products. The candidate must lead by example and hold his shift accountable to the production plan.

Quality Responsibilities:

Understands and complies with the Company Quality Policy and its systems as it applies to the manufacturing of quality products. This includes; standard operating procedures, work instructions, and other quality documentation.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

Associates degree from an accredited institution preferred. Two to five years of experience in a team leader role in a manufacturing facility.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend written or oral work instructions. Ability to effectively respond to questions from peers, and managers. Ability to write short reports, work orders, accident reports and other short written assignments.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform calculations consistent with basic mathematical principles.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems related to the manufacturing process. Ability to exercise good judgment in reporting problems or conditions to management and ability to instruct and lead the team.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Fork truck.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to perform accurate data entry using a computer keyboard and monitor.

The work environment is generally very noisy.
