SUMMARY 
The associate will use all skills to work successfully in a team environment by displaying common sense, maintaining a high level of customer service, work accuracy and timeliness, reporting to work area on time, ready to work and dressed in appropriate attire.  He/she will receive payment from customers or employees for goods or services by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Procedures & Operations:
•	Follow the guidelines set forth by Associate Handbook at all times.
•	Handle training and development of new sales associates as assigned by training supervisor.
•	Relay all communication and information that will entail the smooth operation of department(s) to other associates and management members.
•	Maintains a high level of housekeeping at all times.
•	Handle or assign carry-outs for customers as needed.
•	Follow work schedule and address any necessary changes or concerns with the management team.
•	Be knowledgeable of store safety procedures, and observe safety policies at all times.
•	Participate in monthly store meetings.
•	Assist with the loading/unloading of trucks.
•	Communicate in a clear, concise and legible manner.
•	Use computer database to research information on merchandise, such as availability, vendor, inventory levels, sales, current retail, etc.
•	Empties trash as needed.  
Departmental:
•	Compute or recompute bill using itemized lists and print receipts showing amount due.
•	Issue rain checks for out of stock sale merchandise.
•	Make change, cash checks, and issue receipts to customers.
•	Obtain required information from customer to complete transaction (such as, but not limited to: name, drivers license number, purchase order number, date of birth, etc.)
•	Reprint copies of previously run receipts.
•	Be knowledgeable of the store’s house account policy and direct questions and disputes to appropriate person.
•	Understand laws concerning agricultural tax exemption and gain approval.
•	Check scanned price against merchandise price.
•	Understand the Scanning Law requirements and gain approval for such refunds.  
•	Follow store policy on returned merchandise.  
•	Give cash refunds or issue credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise.
•	Complete paperwork and gain required approval for defective merchandise.
•	Operate cash register by passing price coded items across electronic scanner and also by keying in item numbers to record price, compile printed list, and display cost of customer purchase, tax, and rebates on monitor screen.
•	Organize collected paperwork in manner specified
•	Handle all steps in a layaway.
•	Maintain a clean register area and notify management when water begins to pool in entrance.  

Customer Service:
•	Advise customer on location of tools, hardware, and materials.
•	Settle customer claims or handle minor customer complaints in a kind, friendly manner.  (A management team member should handle all serious customer complaints.)
•	Answer telephone when necessary

All additional responsibilities as assigned by management.  
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.  Ability to write simple correspondence, in English.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization, in English.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, in English.  

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Benefits Summary:
- VSP-vision is for full time and part time after 90 days, and is fully funded by the employee.
- Ameritas-dental is for full-time and part time after 90 days, and is fully funded by the employee.
- Blue Care- health is for full-time only, after 90 days and is covered 70/30 company/employee, and Ace will cover 50% of the family if no other insurance is available, 40% if other insurance is available.
- Fidelity-401k for employees after 1 year, an average of 1000 hours, and they must be 18 or older to participate. Ace matches $1 for $1 up to the first 3% and then ½ of the next 2%, maxing out at 4%, associates are also fully vested with their first deferral.
- Vacation days are 5 after a year, 10 after 3 years, and 15 after 7 years.
- Sick pay- 5 days after 6 months and 10 days after 5 years
- Anniversary honors and awards beginning after 1 year of service
