Department Marketing Statement
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, is looking for a full-time Physician Assistant. Duties include but are not limited to, serving as a patient navigator, examining and assessing new and established orthopaedic patients; ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests; and serving as a liaison between the surgical service and the medical services. Possible weight lifting requirement, heavy lifting of no more than 50 lbs. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for improving patient access, patient/family teaching, discharge planning, outpatient follow-ups, and obtaining appropriate ancillary services for the care of orthopaedic patients. The scope of practice will be broad and will focus on the outpatient setting.
Salary Range
$85,462 to $136,738
Specific Job Related Duties
- Function primarily as an independent clinician focused on patients with low complexity/non-surgical orthopaedic complaints.
- Provide patient care assistance for orthopaedic patients in the clinic setting under the supervision of the orthopaedic surgery faculty.
- Independently and competently, assess patients and identify actual and potential patient care needs.
- Elicit detailed patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Attend and participate in outpatient clinics to include Victory Lakes, South Shore Harbour, and UTMB Galveston.
- Coordinate care of orthopaedic patients, including disposition and follow-up appointments.
- Serve as contact to patients, and referring physicians. Field clinical phone calls and provide patient education.
- Competently and consistently, complete accurate, concise and legible documentation on hospital records.
- Respect and support patient rights.
- Practice and promote positive patient and peer relations.
- Assist faculty and support staff with patient care issues as needed.
- Function as an independent and supportive team member and team leader.
- Adhere to internal controls established for department.
- Perform related duties as required.
Preferred Skill/Competency
- At least one year experience preferred.
- Orthopaedic Surgery experience is preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish desirable.
- Experience and competency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
