About this job

The Youth Development Leader provides direct supervision to a group of children in a YMCA before and after school program.  Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers and school community.  Assists in the coordination, planning, supervision and implementation of all activities.  Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall before and after school experience. 

 

Responsibilities
  • Supervises a group of children.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Consistently demonstrates and reinforces the values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility.
Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with school age children (may include working as a babysitter, nanny or other childcare program).
  • Commitment to provide quality youth development services at all levels.
  • Demonstrated public relations and leadership skills in working with program parents, school personnel, children and co-workers.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Have a general understanding of computer technology.
