Reports to: Terrain Brand Manager

OBJECTIVE:

The Design by Terrain Supervisor is responsible for providing the highest level of customer service through expert knowledge, design and leadership for the Design by Terrain program. The Supervisor will train others and be an active resource for staff regarding the products and designs within DBT program. The Terrain Supervisor will be responsible for upholding category standards and should have a full understanding of the Terrain aesthetic and customer base. He/ She will be an active participant in creating and holding workshops and special events in their area of expertise. The Supervisor will apply specialized knowledge to develop creative, innovative ways to drive sales for the DBT program and store as a whole. The Supervisor will meet or exceed sales goals through direct sales to customers, support to staff, and partnerships across multiple departments. He/ She will work closely with the Garden Manager, Anthropologie Store Leadership Team and the terrain Visual & Store Directors to ensure that department standards are met and designs are following the seasonal inspiration. They should be self-motivated and effective problem solvers. The Supervisor must have a flexible schedule and be available to work weekends. This is a very hands on program with a great deal of planting and designing coming from the DBT supervisor.

PEOPLE:

  • Ensure that staff is working productively at all times. Work with management to assign people daily projects and completion time frames. Put time frames on tasks that need to be done as well as check to see if people complete them in a timely manner.
  • Be active in the hiring and staffing of the DBT team. Work with Brand Manager to schedule interviewing and hiring times.
  • Exceed customer expectations by providing superb customer service and exceptional design.
  • Build genuine, long lasting relationships with customers through thoughtful, personalized attention. Guide customers toward specific products that will meet their needs and their unique personal style.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of products within DBT.
  • Introduce new products to all staff through morning meeting presentations, special training sessions, chat in's, etc.
  • Ensure prompt follow up to customer questions. Ensure smooth and efficient processing of customer special orders. Positively resolve any customer concerns.
  • Provide leadership in area of expertise through staff training and inspiration. Serve as an active resource to all staff regarding category and products.

PROCESS:

  • Monitor current stock of material needed for Design by Terrain. Maintain communication with terrain home office of business needs.
  • Ensure staff is following all terrain policy and procedure including damage policy and maintaining sku integrity.
  • Understand and utilize sales and sales goal information to meet or exceed weekly and monthly goals.
  • Uphold departmental and visual standards of product (i.e. product must be stocked, clean and properly signed, and following seasonal inspiration).
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of products and trends. Work with manager to schedule time off the floor to gather inspiration. Present inspiration and creative direction to team members through Mural.ly and DBT throw-downs. Continually challenge your team members to elevate the DBT design.
  • Report on numbers for Design by Terrain as a whole during weekly meetings, expanding on opportunities and successes.
  • Through weekly & monthly meetings with management provide feedback on department demands, staffing and material needs.
  • Develop creative, innovative ways to drive sales in area of expertise. Facilitate the implementation of sales programs and track their success. This may include but not be limited to increased signage for services, tables set up during festivals, samples of work sent out.
  • Ensure end of week reporting is accurate, and timely.

PRESENTATION:

  • Apply the Terrain aesthetic to enhance the visual impact of our unique merchandise within both the Nursery and Décor. Gather inspiration on a weekly basis and translate to weekly focus. This inspiration may be found directly through terrain's visual department, shopterrain.com, The Backyard, Instagram, Pinterest or other applicable blogs and websites. Blend sales trends and in store observations to more global trends. All should be shared on Mural.ly on a consistent basis.
  • Plan for broader seasonal focuses as well on a quarterly basis, spending time gathering inspiration and gearing up for larger inventory needs.
  • Work with team members across departments to create and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization on the site and back of house.
  • React to undesirable product and remove from the floor if unsaleable- dead or unhealthy plants, dirty or broken product, etc. Partner with management team to find solutions as to what to do with this product.
  • Partner with other managers and merchandising team to support accurate placement of new production pieces.
  • Ensure that areas of Design by terrain are "retail ready" at the start and close of every business day.
