Role Summary/Purpose

The Reciprocating Compression Mechanic / Field Service Tech I will provide hands-on technical and operational support of GE Reciprocating Compression equipment and supporting utility systems within customer facilities during commissioning, start-up, operations, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance testing, and trouble-shooting situations as required.

Essential Responsibilities

In the role of Reciprocating Compression Mechanic / Field Service Tech I, you will:

  • Plan and execute site installation activities for Reciprocating Compression equipment

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) in the investigation and resolution of customer reported technical problems with equipment

  • Make recommendations to the customer to remediate operational or service difficulties. Provide recommended preventative maintenance procedures as requested by the customer

  • Through acceptable troubleshooting processes, diagnose and correct engine problems and / or compressor problemsPerform testing of equipment in the field

  • Conduct daily safety training and supervise the completion of daily safety checks and report safety concerns

  • Monitor key and critical operating variables and other process data to ensure that the engine and compressor units are operating within design parameters On-site, and attend operations meetings with client personnel to proactively identify issues and lead the efforts to resolve them

  • Lead on-site day to day activities

  • Learn, share, and implement best practices with extended Reciprocating Compression Engineering, Sales, and Operations team members

  • Establish and cultivate working relationships with key customer contacts including operators, engineering and maintenance personnel. Proactively manage long term and short term issues

  • Manage on-site activities leading safety and environmental reviews. FST II will be a key to successful process hazard reviews

  • Lead trouble-shooting / problem solving assistance efforts with customers, correcting or repairing the customers' equipment

  • Be able to safely deploy to remote geographic assignment locations - onshore and offshore locations with limited access to medical care, which may require 4 hours (or more) travel time to reach secondary level medical care

  • Mentor other GE technicians in their development

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university (OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum 12 years of experience in Reciprocating Compression)

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Reciprocating Compression

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required

  • Work in a constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities

  • Be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as requiredLift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Be subjected to extreme heat for extended periods of time

  • Undergo Periodic fitness for duty tests, examinations, and/or certifications will be required for onshore/offshore remote location assignments

  • To the extent that you are applying for a position that requires you to operate a GE owned / leased or rented vehicle for company business, you must be willing to submit to a check of your driving record
