The Ultrasound Technologist provides technical expertise in the area of diagnostic ultrasound. The technologist combine technical and clinical knowledge to produce diagnostic quality scans and test to demonstrate presence or absence of disease, progress of fetal growth, and non-invasive vascular exams for subsequent evaluation by the Radiologists. This individual uses independent judgment operates and is accountable for sophisticated, expensive, computerized ultrasound equipment to produce quality imaging in a manner consistent with a safe and professional environment. This position functions in a highly-specialized and unique area within the diagnostic imaging services.

Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Experience – Minimum of two years as an Ultrasound technologist in an acute care setting is preferred. Experience with PACs, and equipment from a wide variety of manufactures is desirable. Education – ARDMS certified or ARDMS eligible (certified within 6 months of hire). A graduate from an accredited Ultrasonographers Program is required. Current CPR certification is required.

Knowledge of: Knowledge of age-specific criteria for population served is required. Must be a highly-motivated and organized individual who can balance patient care, productivity, communication, and public relations skills.

Ability to: Perform ultrasound procedures to include abdomen, renal, OB, pelvic, breast, testicular, carotid, DVT, assist with ultrasound guided biopsy procedures, and miscellaneous studies as required. The individual must maintain a working knowledge of the latest developments in ultrasound procedures and techniques. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required. Experience with equipment from a wide variety of manufacturers is desirable.
