Position Purpose:

This position shall have the responsibility to report problems with the food safety management system to identified person(s). This position has the responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions. You will acquire and maintain knowledge of HACCP/GMP/OPRP/PRP policies and requirements to complete all monitoring and/or verifications tasks as outlined in the Food Safety Management. This position will assure all HACCP's, OPRP's, and SOP's are executed as planned. Have the ability to perform analyses to standards equivalent to those described in ISO 17025 and to understand requirements of the Good Laboratory Practices Manual (GLP) and be able to take action if necessary.

You will be responsible for executing safety initiatives and communicating safety awareness, and maintain adherence to all Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • 35% - Conduct pre-operational inspections to meet USDA standards while also serving as primary QA contact to USDA for Sanitation functions and requirements. Maintain Pre-Op SSOP program: update and lead annual recertification, maintain daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual records to support and verify the program, implement corrective actions pertaining to pre-op swab program and assist with microbiological corrective action teams. Suggest possible solutions to problems identified during sanitation and initiate corrective action. Make decisions on food safety incidents in the absence of a direct supervisor and effectively communicate findings to supervisor and plant management as soon as possible.
  • 25% - Accountable for the production of food-safe product in a fast-paced manufacturing environment; maintain, calibrate, and utilize lab equipment to perform the following physical tests: pH titrations, solids analysis, viscometer operation, sieve analysis, handheld thermometer and probe temperatures, weights/scales, and organoleptic/sensory evaluation. Tag/Un-tag product while following tag handling procedures and SAP internal/vendor notification procedures.
  • 10% - Complete/maintain/update Sanitation Audits & evaluate the program as needed with assistance from the QA Supervisor.
  • 10% - Attend various meetings to represent the QA function- present monthly food safety topics when required to promote a team environment within sanitation and QA.
  • 10% - Assist the Sanitation and QA supervisors with designing/writing/maintaining/updating sanitation cleaning procedures and performing necessary training. Complete miscellaneous sanitation tasks as needed by the sanitation team and help cover for operations during break rotations if requested.
  • 10% - Self-manage individual annual technician certification, development plan, and all assigned projects to meet specifications and deadlines.

Other Requirements:

Reliable transportation to and from work. Shift hours are 10PM - 6AM, hours will vary and may be required to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Positive Attitude and Problem Solving skills.
  • Be physically able to perform the job duties including extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, shoveling, sweeping, and repeatedly lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Availability to work outside of normal shift up to including weekend and off shift hours as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and across departments.
  • Knowledge of conversion units of measurement.
  • Pipetting, meniscus reading, and titrating skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to follow procedures and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Meet Pay For Knowledge gatekeeper requirement: Must have 32 education credits in an applicable field (i.e. Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Microbiology, Biology, or Chemistry), or 5 years-experience in a food production role that is applicable to a technician/sanitarian position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous food manufacturing and/or Quality Assurance experience.
  • Willingness to advance skillset.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Previous working knowledge in SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
