Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the day to day activities of the Accounting department are conducted in a timely manner; accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with company policies and procedures. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are applied to the maintenance of account records and preparation of financial statements and reports are prepared and distributed in a timely manner.

DUTIES:

  1. PERSONNEL
  • Perform spot checks/high level reviews of accounts payable, sales, cash receipts journal entry batches.
  • Review the monthly general ledger prior to closing for unusual activity or balances and direct the reconciliation or analysis of general ledger account activity
  • Verify that all transactions for the month have been recorded in the books and records
  • Have knowledge of all company activities, over-all current period accounting activity and normal account balances and activities to identify potential accounting errors or variances which would require further investigation to ensure records are complete and accurate.
  • Maintain spreadsheets, schedules and files detailing activity in general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules through the utilization of data generated by various computer programs and sources.
  • Coordinate the year end audit with the Company’s independent auditors
  • Document and update the accounting department processes for use by the auditors
  • Assist in preparation of the Company’s income tax returns and supporting schedules.
  • Respond to inquiries from or audits by taxing and licensing authorities
  • Assist in the renewal procedures for insurance policies covering the company’s operations.
  • Assist in the documentation and disposition of insurance claims
  • Supervise the Accounting Supervisor in the detailed direction of the accounting department staff.
  • Consistently meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university with an interdisciplinary background in accounting and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination. Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel and other computer applications.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to utilize statistical methods in basic data analysis. Ability to plot data and construct and interpret graphs.

NOTE: Some weekend work or extended hours may be required. Regular attendance is an essential duty.
