Job Description:

Purpose

This position is responsible for managing the team of Store Planners in the development of store (both new and remodels) designs by partnering with the Operations, Merchandising, Space Planning, Construction, and MIS departments. This role will continuously act as a liaison between the Operations and Merchandising teams along with field associates to strategically help assort, develop and design new and existing stores as a growth initiative.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Design (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD 2004 or higher preferred
  • Three or more years of direct supervision of others
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • General retail experience; must be familiar with merchandising and overall shopping environment
  • Store and space planning experience with the ability to visualize in both 2-D and 3-D
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Ability to lead cross-department functional projects
  • Ability to lead process improvement initiatives
  • Excellent decision making, planning, and organizational skills
  • Extremely detailed oriented with a demonstrated ability to identify and correct plan measurement and bay count issues
  • Strong, proactive communicator; identifies obstacles to success and communicates accordingly
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
Essential Functions
  • Direct management of team of Store Planners including hiring, training and development, day-to-day work-flow, and performance management
  • Review and approve the work of Store Planners in the layout of retail stores
  • Resolve complex site development, store layout, merchandising and space allocation plans within the framework of set guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with quality control procedures
  • Assist Sr. Director in creating and adapting Company prototype design standards and guidelines
  • Review and interpret existing conditions from as-built drawings and existing documentation; identify constraints and opportunities to develop a store layout aligning with company strategy
  • Maintain and validate current design assortment with field teams to ensure all ideas and practices are included in all store projects and proper space is allocated given current corporate standards
  • Implement change process management to ensure all functional areas are informed of any impact to their areas of responsibility
  • Ensure all building regulations/standards set by local, state and federal jurisdictions are being maintained and communicated (stay current with such regulations and standards)
  • Interact with Construction, IT, Operations, and other divisional and field associates to ensure that information included in plans is current
  • Develop drawings of existing and conceptual spaces for presentations as well as concept development and communicate direction to field and merchandising partners
  • Ensures all projects and deliverables are met on time
  • Communicates obstacles to success
  • Responsible for creating architectural floor plans, lighting plans, floor finish plans and interior warehouse rack elevations. Projects may include: prototype, non-prototype, remodel and/or new store development
  • In addition to generating design development documents using CAD software, manage prototype file archives and maintain documentation for posting to the department's intranet and public hard drives
Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)
  • Occasional travel required including air and car travel
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.
Physical/Sensory Requirements

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
