This is an hourly position governed by a collective bargaining agreement.

The Boeing Company is looking to fill openings for a Propulsion/Prop Test & Service Tech B in each of our El Segundo and Taft locations in CA.

Position Overview

  • Assist in the development of and testing for flight propulsion subsystems and assist with design, build, modification, fabrication and assembly of complex test equipment and test fixtures on ground support equipment.
  • Assist in propellant servicing of completed spacecraft.
  • Assist in determining test methods and sequence that will be used to obtain required performance data associated with acceptance of test and flight components, and propulsion subsystems.
  • Work with electrical components and pneumatic systems with pressures up to 6,200 psi (pounds per square inch).
  • Use engineering specifications and instructions, test procedures, schematics, sketches, oral and written instructions.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and specifications.
  • Assist with designing, building, modifying, fabricating and assembling complex electrical and mechanical test fixtures and equipment used to test and service propulsion systems including propellant servicing ground support equipment.
  • Assist with conducting flight component and propulsion subsystem tests and assist with performing functional testing and propellant servicing operations on thrusters at company and off-site test facilities, and on spacecraft at launch sites in preparation for launch.
  • Assist with determining method to verify the safety and functionality of test and servicing equipment, and conduct verification tests based on methods selected.
  • Perform decontamination and cleanliness certification procedures on flight hardware and test equipment after their exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • Record and evaluate test results for completeness and accuracy, and assist with preparing reports as required.
  • Operate test equipment such as oscilloscopes, leak detectors, vacuum pumps, microscopes, precision weighing systems.
  • Operate fabrication equipment such as tube benders and flaring machines and operate process equipment such as contamination control and vacuum systems, scrubber systems, de-ionized water flush panels, and ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Operate shop equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Propulsion system testing and propellant loading are deemed as Hazardous Operations and safe handling of hazardous materials (Spacecraft Propellants) during load operations are part of the position duties.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship

  • Have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED

  • Must be able to work with others as part of a team which includes giving and receiving feedback, assisting others in completion of tasks; possess interpersonal, listening, and participation skills.

  • Experience working with hazardous materials.

  • This position requires constant standing and walking, frequent bending at the waist, twisting, pushing/pulling, occasional kneeling and crawling, and lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds.

  • Experience operating non-automated Stand-alone test equipment

  • Must be able to work on elevated and/or uneven surfaces.

  • Must have ability to climb and work while standing on ladders.

  • Will require shift changes and travel with short notice.

  • Must be willing to take necessary medications and vaccinations required for some international travel.

  • Must pass an annual propellant and SCAPE physical and training for both category I and IV SCAPE operations.

  • Must be able to carry a 45 pound backpack breathing apparatus for at least 4 to 6 hours at a time while wearing SCAPE suit

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Top Secret Clearance and/or SSBI is strongly desired.

  • Experience with mechanical troubleshooting

  • Experience utilizing and following detailed work instructions, electrical schematics, and reading and interpreting blueprints or drawings

  • Experience with functional testing and pressure testing
