Job Qualifications:

Aurora Flight Sciences has an opening for a Stress Group Team-Lead, a first line supervisor role. The individual in this position has the responsibility to lead the assigned team to execute and mature the site's technical capabilities and methods (processes, tools, organization, etc.) in Stress Group. This person is also expected to provide significant technical contributions to various programs and proposal efforts. This job requires a combination of resource management, business development, and stress analysis and test experience.

This position has the responsibility to lead the assigned team to execute and mature the company's technical capabilities and methods (processes, tools, organization, etc.) in these important areas. To be the Aerostructures Stress Group team's coach; to develop and sustain a highly capable, technically competent, effectively utilized, and highly productive engineering team of Stress Analysts. A combination of technical delivery and team leadership, the primary product lines for stress analysis activities will be manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, optionally piloted vehicles, and modification of existing aircraft (fixed, VTOL, and rotary wing). Responsibilities include recruiting (candidate interviewing and assessment), mentoring and performance evaluation.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership of 5+ Airframe Stress Analyst as part of a Matrix organization.
  • Team management including employee evaluations, employee training plans, monitoring of team activities, weekly report summary, staff assignments, etc.
  • Work with peers at other Aurora sites on the selection, implementation, configuration control and use-training of suitable tools and processes.
  • Interface routinely with a multi-disciplined team to include other group leaders and program managers at Aurora as well as customer counterparts.
  • Provide directions and coordinate work within the assigned analysts and actively participate in daily operations as required to meet schedules and resolve issues.
  • Experience with the composite part detail process, including composites stacking sequence, lamination theory, honeycomb core, bonded assemblies, manufacturing assembly and fabrication processes, post-cure machining operations.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

  • Proven history of leadership of medium (10) to large (20+) teams.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 4 year engineering degree from an accredited university (BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar). Advanced degrees highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in airframe design, analysis, and/or manufacturing with emphasis on carbon composite primary airframe structures. Demonstrate proficiency in FEA tools and understanding in airframe primary structure load paths.
  • Familiar with aerospace industry accepted analysis methodologies for metallic and composite airframe structures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Experience with Military type / FAA / EASA certification
  • Must be a US Citizen or Legal US Permanent Resident
