About this job

The primary purpose of a Medical Dosimetrist is to design, plan and calculate optimum radiation treatment delivery techniques, and to ensure continuous accuracy of delivered, modified and total radiation doses under the supervision of qualified medical physicists and radiation oncologists.

Education/Licensures/Certifications:

* Bachelor of Science degree in Physics related field is required

* Prior Radiation Therapy Technology education is required

* Graduate of a medical dosimetrist training program is preferred

* Medical Dosimetry Certification Board - MDCB is preferred

Experience:

* Minimum two years of clinical experience in Radiation Therapy is required

Skills & Knowledge:

* Complies with regulatory requirements (i.e. TJC) appropriate for position

* Demonstrate an understanding in the area of cancer, radiation biology, radiation therapy techniques, radiation oncology physics, equipment technology, radiation safety and protection, anatomy, mathematics, and the psychosocial aspects of cancer.

* Must be able to understand the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to derive computerized treatment plans, and communicate these aspects to the radiation oncologist for plan approval, and to the radiation therapist for plan implementation.

* Must be able to perform routine duties independent of supervision, but consult with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist as required.

* Must have the ability to interpret and execute treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols.

* Must possess mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and be able to visualize objects in three-dimensional concepts to facilitate the treatment planning process.

* Ability to work well in team effort.
