Job Summary:

Reviews and evaluates RAW EEG and video data. Scans, documents and annotates ictal, interictal and paroxysmal events. Maps interictal and ictal patterns and creation of permanent file clips which represent these findings. Details patient history from patient interviews and writes daily monitoring progress notes in the patient hospital charts. Edits and archives EEG and video data of patients Video/EEG monitoring.

Responsibilities:

* Performs long term monitoring of adult and pediatric patients using closed circuit and digital audio/visual equipment and electrophysiological recording instruments.

* Presents patient history and evolution, EEG and video data and radiologic studies in daily patient rounds for staff physicians.

* Describes current seizures and frequency.

* Lists current medications and results of previous investigations.

* Describes examination made during admission to the monitoring units.

* Maps, classifies an impression of ictal and interictal EEG/Video data.

* Writes final report and detailed description of EEG patterns, seizure semiology, radiologic findings, mapping of ictal and interictal abnormalities and selection of representative EEG samples.

* Serves as an instructor for new personnel being trained to perform testing and care for long term monitoring patients.

* Other duties as assigned.

Education:

* High School or GED.

Certifications:

* Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEG.T) with Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Complexity of Work:

* Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment. Must be able to work in a dynamic ever changing environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

* Minimum two years of recent technical experience in epilepsy long term monitoring, routine EEG lab with exposure to long term monitoring on Bedside Monitoring systems or any combination of such experience.

Physical Requirements:

* Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.

* Ability to assist with positioning and transporting of patients, pushing beds, carts and wheelchairs.

* Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

* Possible exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.

Protective Equipment:

* Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
