THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION, 20 HOURS PER WEEK. THE WORK HOURS ARE:

TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY 5 PM - 9 PM & SATURDAY 8 AM - 12 PM.

Position Purpose: The Substance Use Disorder Counselor Intern position provides the opportunity to gain the necessary skills and experience to work as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor in a supervised setting. Reporting to a Supervisor and under the supervision of a licensed or certified program management associate, the Intern will provide group, individual counseling, alcohol and other drug assessments, education classes, orientation, individual appointments, and make-up groups for alcohol and drug issues.

* Prior to conducting services without direct supervision, each Intern shall observe at least three hours of face-to-face interviews, 12 hours of educational classes, and 20 hours of group counseling sessions that are conducted by a certified Counselor

* Facilitates and conducts alcohol and drug dependency groups, individual face-to-face sessions, and education services for participants in ways to reduce the negative impact of the use of chemical and alcohol involvement

* Completes case management, including the maintenance of individual program participant files, group rosters and group notes

* Processes program dismissals and program completion paperwork; submits for approval as directed. Maintains group sign-in sheets.

* Conducts re-reinstatements, intakes, transfers, orientation, and other program participant activities

* Directs disposition of sensitive or problematic program participant situations to appropriate Supervisor

* Attends weekly mandatory staff meetings/trainings

* Attends weekly progress review meetings with Supervisor

Education/Experience:

* High School Graduate or equivalent and currently enrolled in an Alcohol/Drug Studies Educational Program as required by the certifying agency.

* Meet Title Nine hiring requirements for an Intern position is desired (observed at least three hours of face-to-face interviews, completed 12 hours of educational classes, and 20 hours of group counseling sessions that are conducted by a certified counselor).

* Previous paid/volunteer experience in a substance abuse setting, bilingual (English/Spanish) desired

License/Certification:

* Registered as AOD Counselor in the State of California, and in good standing with certifying agency

* Has less than the minimum 2080 hours of experience in providing educational counseling services to persons with alcohol and/or other drug problems
