Position Summary:

It is the responsibility of the Engineer to perform project maintenance and repair work on all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems within the facilities and to accomplish all functional duties. All duties are to be performed in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations, and ordinances, as well as department and Company policies, practices, and procedures.

Essential Functions and Tasks

The incumbent is expected to perform other duties necessary for effective operation of the department

  • Receives and responds to maintenance calls in the hotel and casino from guests and other departments.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs lighting fixtures, systems, plumbing, and electrical issues.
  • Performs repairs on kitchen equipment in the building.
  • Assesses and performs general repairs on all floor covering and/or upholstery.
  • Performs welding and fabrication.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical equipment including heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, fan coils, chillers, pumps, boilers, cooling towers, and energy management systems.
  • Works with power ranging from low to medium voltages.
  • Operates scissor and boom lifts, and climbs ladders to access elevated areas such as ceilings and catwalks.
  • Troubleshoots electrical systems, motor controls, lighting and dimming systems, and UPS systems.
  • Operates and maintains appropriate tools and equipment daily for troubleshooting on property or site.
  • Keeps informed and updated on current techniques and technical methods.
  • Maintains a constant awareness of safety and accident prevention.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Drives and operates company vehicles to and from various MGM Resorts International properties.
  • Responds to and resolves guest complaints in a timely manner and creatively solves problems with the ability to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and resolve potential difficulties.
  • Ensures the privacy and confidentiality of guests and limits requests for information pertaining to guests in accordance with hotel policies.

Education and/or Experience

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in at least one of the following related trades as they pertain to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, certified locksmith, upholstery, welding and fabrication, floor covering, or pool operator.

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience working in related trades.
  • Previous experience in the hospitality industry or similar environment preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities, English as the primary or secondary language.
  • Journeyman Electrical, Plumber, Steam Fitter or HVAC Boiler License.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • MA Gaming License
  • Driver's License.
  • Driving Record from DMV.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Communication: The ability to communicate information clearly and politely to coworkers, supervisors, and guests when speaking, writing, and reading English. This includes targeting the amount, style, and content of the information to the needs of the receiver.

Listening: The ability to understand key pieces of spoken information, separating relevant from irrelevant information, and following verbal instructions and explanations. This includes listening attentively to spoken information to ensure that the intended message has been accurately received, holding responses until the person has finished making his/her point, and repeating information to ensure accuracy.

Technical Instructions/Blueprints: The ability to read and understand technical instructions, schematics, and blueprints (e.g., electrical schematics, building blueprints).

Building and Safety Codes: Knowledge of local and Federal building and safety codes.

Building Repair: Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in building repair. This includes the ability to report and/or repair buildings, structures, or paved surfaces.

Plumbing: Skill in plumbing techniques including installing plumbing equipment and fixtures such as toilets, sinks, and pipes, repairing plumbing problems such as leaks and clogged drains, toilets, and pipes, welding, brazing, and soldering pipes, and cutting, threading, and bending pipe to required angle using equipment such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines. This also includes knowledge of water treatment, related chemicals, and water distribution balance.

HVAC/Refrigeration: Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, including boilers, chillers, air handling units/controls, and refrigeration equipment. This includes the ability to inspect, repair, and maintain equipment, charge refrigeration systems, replace air filters, and clean coils.

Safety Orientation: The ability to work safely. This includes clearly understanding and following company safety policies and procedures, completing work in a safe manner, caring about safety of self and others, responding appropriately in an emergency, and reporting unsafe conditions.

Company Polices Knowledge: The ability and willingness to learn and understand the company's policies, procedures, and regulations related to operations, guest relations, human resources, safety, security, and loss prevention.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional work outside of normal business hours.
