Position Title Pipefitter

Job Summary

The Pipefitter is responsible for the layout, assembly, installation and maintenance of piping systems.

  • Layout, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, domestic water, sewer, industrial processing systems - on basis of knowledge of system operating and study of building plans or working drawings.

  • Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.

  • Inspect work sites to determine presence of obstructions.

  • Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other maintenance workers.

  • Thread pipe using threading machine.

  • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine.

  • Assemble and install variety of metal and non metal pipe and pipe fitting; including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic.

  • Join piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints.

  • Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers.

  • Test system for leaks by proper methods in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.

  • Perform other job related duties, as assigned.

  • Direct repair personnel, as assigned.

  • Must possess the ability to read and understand blueprints and sketches.

  • Knowledge and experience of tools, equipment, and machinery related to the pipefitting trade.

  • Work from preventive maintenance schedules and assist with development of such schedules.

  • Assist outside contractors, as required, with knowledge of facilities, operations, and utilities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Journeyman steam fitter or plumbers license required.

  • Must obtain within one year and maintain back flow prevention testing and maintenance certification.

  • Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.

  • A willingness to work rotational shift if necessary, including days, evenings, and nights as well as overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.

  • Eight years experience in the plumbing/pipefitting trade required.

  • High school, technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, and able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master Plumbing License.

  • Ability to write correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
