Job Title:                    Community Lunch Supply Coordinator/Driver

Reports to:                 Executive Director and Program Manager

Hours/week:               Up to 40 hours a week

Primarily Tuesday-Friday, some weekend pickups required

Compensation:          $16/hour, with paid time off and a stipend towards health insurance

About usCommunity Lunch on Capitol Hill provides hot meals and other essential services to homeless and low-income people in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood in a welcoming environment. We serve lunch twice each week at Central Lutheran Church and supper twice each week at All Pilgrims Church. We also provide medical and dental assistance, survival gear, clothing, toiletries and other services to help guests improve the lives of our guests.

Working at Community Lunch means joining a staff that values collaboration, curiosity and compassion in an environment that treats everyone with dignity and respect.  We are a small but growing 501(c)3 non-profit.  We have been serving full hot meals to homeless and hungry people on Capitol Hill for more than 32 years.

Position Summary: The Supply Coordinator is responsible for food storage, equipment and inventory at our two locations, as well as shopping trips and daily pickups in the Community Lunch van at food banks, restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries and other suppliers essential to our meal program.  The position plays a key role in weekly meal planning, requiring an accurate knowledge of inventory as well as what needs to be purchased to make each of our four weekly meals a success. 

An essential part of this position is being able to work effectively with staff and many volunteers in a cooperative environment.  This individual also works directly with our community partners and must have excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and a safe and deliberate driving style.

Job Focus Areas:

Driving and donation pickup responsibilities include:

  • Regularly scheduled pickups in the Community Lunch van at food banks, grocery stores, restaurants and other businesses, including loading and unloading the van, moving food to the correct storage locations and making sure all donations are property labeled
  • Unscheduled pickups, including some weekend donations
  • Shopping trips to various stores to pick up supplies not donated
  • Keeping accurate records of all donations

Food and Supply Management

  • Organize food and supplies in various storage areas, including freezers and refrigerators
  • Monitor use by dates and rotate inventory accordingly
  • Keep track of food and supply inventory available for meals
  • Work with staff in meal planning to maximize use of donated items
  • Ensure kitchen/dining essentials are adequately stocked
  • Assist in developing shopping lists for items not donated

Maintenance

  • Keep all storage areas clean and organized
  • Responsible for regular van maintenance, cleaning and fueling
  • Oversee van mileage logs and record keeping
  • Monitor all refrigerator and freezer units to ensure proper operation

Meal Assistance

·  Get to know guests at meals to help build a sense of community while working with staff to determine what other services Community Lunch can provide

·  Participate in de-escalation and other trainings (provided by Community Lunch) to be an active participant during meals

·  Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss issues, plan future meals, generate ideas and resolve guest conflicts

·  Assist in all areas as needed, including –but not limited to—dishwashing, garbage detail, serving, assistance in cooking, meal cleanup, regular cleaning and occasional deep cleaning

Assist with Resource Development

· Work with Program Manager on donation drives and in other areas to assure guests have access to survival gear, clothing and other supplies

·  Pick up in kind clothing and survival gear donations from donation sites

·  Manage and organize clothing and survival gear, keeping an accurate inventory of what is available

Job Requirements:               

·   Must be comfortable working with homeless and low-income people in our community and possess excellent interpersonal skills

·  Ability to work cooperatively and enthusiastically with a small staff in many different capacities

·  Proven ability to work independently with little supervision

·  Must be able to lift 40-pounds from the floor unassisted and be able to handle heavy loads

·  Some experience tracking inventory and supplies preferred

·  Must have valid Washington State driver’s license and clean driving record

·  Must agree to a comprehensive background check

·  King County Food Handlers permit required within 30-days of employment

   Some college preferred
