Position Overview:

The Boeing CST-100 Starliner program is seeking a Flight Engineer to support the current Parachute System Responsible Engineer (RE) as the program moves through certification and into operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the definition of CST-100 Starliner parachute and related aerodynamic data.
  • Manage and manipulate large parachute drop test data sets.
  • Reduce parachute drop test data to complete test reports and provide necessary data to CST-100 program customers.
  • Automate and improve data reduction and other related analysis tools.
  • Work with GN&C community and the parachute system Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop parachute load predictions during various landing scenarios.
  • Work with GN&C to develop a 6-DOF landing Monte Carlo simulation tool to predict flight dynamics and landing touchdown conditions (Fortran based tool).
  • Execute single case and Monte Carlo simulation runs to support various analyses and system verification.
  • Create physics based models for use in simulations and other tools.
  • Review and interpret results from 6-DOF simulation runs and other tools such as ADAMS (dynamics simulation).
  • Support parachute related lab and system level testing, travel to test sites as required for various meeting and test events.
  • Work with parachute supplier and GN&C to develop pre and post flight trajectories.
  • Perform pre-flight performance predictions and post flight reconstruction for flight tests utilizing simulations and other tools.
  • Train with and travel with current parachute subject matter expert to various parachute drop test locations (e.g. White Sands Missile Range and Yuma, AZ).
  • Provide hardware installation/physical integration and test support, design/configuration support, verification artifact development support, and provide customer coordination.
  • Utilize Boeing Supplier Management, Quality and Document Release systems as needed.
  • Interface with and present results to multiple communities in the program (e.g. GN&C, Structure and Mechanisms, Safety, Flight Test, Mission Ops, Mass Props, Supplier Management, Senior Boeing and NASA Management).
  • Home site for first 2 years can be any location with travel as-needed to test sites, etc. After the first two years, the individual would be relocated to Kennedy Space Center.
