  • Ensure that Blue Man Group values and artistic vision are understood and supported across the organization.
  • Maintain the artistic integrity and quality of the show under the Automation Department.
  • Execute all preset duties, show cues, turnover, and post show duties as outlined on the run sheets in a safe, professional, efficient and timely fashion.
  • Participate in sound check when requested (ex: rehearse new cues, press events).
  • Attend all circle meetings for your scheduled shows.
  • Incorporate new cues when necessary to accommodate changes to the show.
  • Maintain open communication with Head of Automation, Production Management, and Stage Management about each performance through written and verbal notes.
  • Ensure follow-up of all Automation technical notes that are documented in the Performance Report and communicate follow-up to the Head of Automation in a timely manner.
  • Accommodate trailing of position when requested (ex: trainees, new hires).
  • Operate the automation control console in a safe and consistent manner for performances, rehearsals, and maintenance operations.
  • Maintain knowledge and training to run, repair, and/or identify problems with all technical elements of the show under the Automation Technician's field and within the Automation department.
  • Wear a crew radio at the top of your show shift in accordance with the Blue Man and Automation department radio policy.
  • Attend show watches as scheduled and provide feedback to Head of Automation as requested.
  • Maintain, clean, and organize show elements, equipment, and workspaces under the Automation Department.
  • Ensure regular updates of the departmental run sheet, inventory, and routine maintenance list.
  • Communicate with the Head of Automation to contribute to the department's project list as it applies to the Automation Department operation, maintenance, and improvement.
  • Attend all full company meetings, crew meetings, and other pre-scheduled meetings.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by conforming to all established safety policies and procedures; adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to the safe usage of equipment, and comply with safe working methods.
  • Maintain knowledge of how to operate, repair, and/or identify problems with all technical elements under the Automation/Rigging Department jurisdiction.
  • Execute general repair, construction, maintenance and restock of set pieces, supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in all required safety classes and emergency procedure training.
  • Ensure that technical and temporary staff observes equipment safety standards and regulations set forth by the local Safety Team and governing bodies.
  • Document and ensure compliance with the equipment safety inspection program.
  • Provide regular updates for departmental inventory and routine maintenance lists as requested by the Head of Automation; if necessary, identify any additional equipment that may be required.
  • Participate in the setup, inspection, and tear-down of artistic and structural components associated with the local production.
  • Assist in training new crew members and provide regular feedback on crew member's job performance when requested.
  • Maintain all automated elements of the show under the Automation Department jurisdiction.
  • Comfortably work at heights utilizing a harness and/or rope access gear with no limitations in a safe manner.
  • Safely work on electrical and motorized equipment.
  • Adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to the safety of electrical equipment, and comply with safe working methods.
  • Participate in all required equipment operation, safety, and procedure training.
  • Perform weekly and monthly rigging inspections as it applies to the Automation Department.
  • Implement, document, and ensure compliance with the automation equipment safety inspection program.
  • Perform weekly and monthly inspections of all automated equipment.
  • Safely perform maintenance and repair of automated equipment, rigged equipment, and rigging systems.
  • Incorporate any show automation changes as directed by BMP, Production, and Stage Management.
  • Operate various man lifts and fork truck as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
  • Participate in gigs as requested by local management.
  • Duties include (but are not limited to) organizing and setting up equipment as appropriate to role; participating in load-in and load-out and lend assistance to production management, stage management, or other positions as needed.
  • Implement and adhere to Blue Man Group safety and health rules and regulations for locality.
  • Performs all other job related duties as requested.

Required:

  • Previous experience working in a harness with tools and equipment while hanging or standing near exposed drop offs.
  • Previous experience with the operation of various lifts including, fork trucks, articulating booms, scissor and single man lifts.
  • Ability to following through on commitments made to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to remain productive during periods of ambiguity, uncertainty and change.
  • Ability to demonstrate a willingness to take on new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments.
  • Ability to proactively utilizing slower periods to improve work and or work environment; equipment maintenance, archiving, general organization, etc.
  • Working knowledge of theatrical automated and rigging systems behind the mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of equipment utilized in automated show control including control consoles, motor control and safety systems.
  • Working knowledge of power transmission components, pneumatic, and electricity.
  • Working knowledge of commonly used rigging equipment, tools, hardware and safe rigging practices.
  • Working knowledge of rope and knot tying.
  • Working knowledge of metal shop work, performing tasks such as cutting, grinding, drilling, welding and demonstrating the safe utilization of various shop machine and hand tools.
  • Working knowledge of wood shop work, performing tasks such as cutting, sanding, routing and demonstrating the safe utilization of various shop machine and hand tools.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.

Preferred:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar environment.
  • Previous experience operating an automation show console for multiple axes.
  • Previous experience working in a similar resort setting.
