Overview:

As the Buying Intern, you will support rue21's Buying team with identifying and analyzing trends, tracking sales performance, and planning merchandise assortments. You will be responsible for processing vendor samples and gathering information for fit sessions as well as assist with all related Merchandising projects and initiatives.

This is a paid internship (40 hours per week). The duration of the Summer Internship Program is approximately 12 weeks beginning in May 2018.

Responsibilities:

  • Track merchandise selling activity and analyze performance
  • Support the Buyer/Assistant Buyer with assortment planning
  • Process and manage inventory of vendor samples
  • Create seasonal trend reports by executing market research assignments
  • Attend product development sessions to gather merchandise fit information
  • Complete a collaborative group project and presentation of a business initiative
  • Provide administrative support to the Merchandising department
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in your Junior or Senior year; Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, or Business majors strongly preferred
  • Understanding and appreciation for fashion/retail
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, as well as work experience in customer service and/or sales; prior retail experience a plus
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status)
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, problem-solving, and presentation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt well to change in a fast- paced and deadline-oriented environment
