Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE

This position is responsible for financial reporting, processing, analysis, and planning. This position is also expected to make recommendations for improving business decisions and processes to ultimately result in improved sales and profitability.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

provide financial reporting

  • Compile and analyze financial information for assigned business unit. Communicate results and recommendations to Senior Management and key business partners as appropriate.
  • Extract financial data from various accounting and information systems such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages and graphic packages to assemble, manipulate and format data and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of month-end / year-end journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and communication of variances to Finance as appropriate.
  • Perform sensitivity / risk profiles to identify future exposures to company or department.

conduct financial analysis

  • Analyze and interpret data for assigned business unit; ensure financial information has been recorded accurately.
  • Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Apply working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verify documents for completeness ensuring data integrity before presentation of findings.
  • Draw conclusions and make recommendations to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of assigned business unit including budget adjustments and other cost.

QUALIFICATIONS

required

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel/PC spreadsheets.
  • Strong analytical, planning and organization, decision making and leadership skills.

preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or other relevant degree (CPA or MBA a plus).
  • Three or more years of experience in Accounting a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Financial Software programs.
  • Retail industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.

  • Facilitate the addition and management of assets into the Asset Management System.

facilities

  • Act as the finance liaison between the Facilities Department and corporate finance for all aspects of work including utility analysis and cost containment.

FP&A SG&A

  • Meet with various Business Unit/ Department heads and Merchants to facilitate SG&A budget process

FP&A gross margin

  • Meet with various Business Unit/ Department heads and Merchants to facilitate Gross Margin budget process

information services

  • Responsible for analyzing capitalized software projects to ensure that they are accounted for in accordance with GAAP.

real estate expense

  • Identifies overcharges on annual Common Area Maintenance reconciliations submitted to Kohl?s by landlords and negotiate Kohl's claim to resolution.
  • Enforce Kohl's lease provisions by conducting audits at landlord offices.
  • Assist with drafting lease amendments which document audit results and simplify Kohl's future obligations.

real estate planning

  • Acts as the finance liaison for the real estate department to provide financial recommendations for new stores, remodels, relocations and lease extensions.
  • Prepares, reviews and summarizes detailed financial return analysis (including net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), return on investment (ROI) and lease versus buy decisions).
  • Provides recommendations on market optimization alternatives and prioritization of future new stores and remodels.

sales planning & analysis

  • Meet with Marketing and Merchants on a regular basis to ensure initiatives are accounted for in sales planning process.

store planning

  • Prepare monthly accounting journal entries and reconciliations related to new store, remodel and other construction costs as well as general expenses for the Store Planning division.

test and learn

  • Design and execute tests using APT testing software, providing recommendations to Kohl's leadership based on the interpretation of test results
  • Act as the testing expert for Kohl's and train new APT users, ensuring compliance to testing best practices
  • Identify new testing opportunities

purchasing

  • Partner closely with operations to understand movements in commodity pricing

human resources

  • Act as the finance liaison between the Human Resources Department and corporate finance

product development

  • Establish appropriate dashboards and reporting tools for Product Development
  • Regular review of key metrics related to private and exclusive brand performance

e-commerce

  • Lead preparation of month-end / year-end journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and communication of variances to Finance as appropriate
  • Support the Kohls.com merchandising and MP&A teams by automating reports, and creating standardized business forms as requested by business leads.
  • Champion new and innovative reports to help drive Kohls.com business.

Senior Financial Analyst, Credit

  • Perform ROI analyses to evaluate expanding credit card customer base and revenue streams as well as capital investment initiatives.
  • Monitor and oversee Billing and the Accounts Receivable system.

Credit Finance - Business Analysis Reporting Team

  • Daily, weekly, and monthly reporting of workload data and credit statistics including scorecard reporting.
  • Monthly completion and measurement of associates pay for performance data.
