Job Summary: Maintains H-E-B facilities and systems in a professional manner that assures safety, efficiency and reliability. Supports Facilities Services mission to be a 'World Class' Maintenance Management organization using the latest in technology, processes and procedures.

Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned as necessary:

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS:

  • Perform basic building repairs to dock doors, walls, roof leaks and floor damage
  • Troubleshoot, repair and replace plumbing problems with toilet fixtures, water coolers, water supplies and sewer lines
  • Install or repair water supply lines using glued plastic, compression fittings, soldered copper tubing or threaded pipe
  • Troubleshoot and repair traffic gates, fencing, turnstiles, etc.
  • Perform skill level appropriate Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks on the facility buildings and grounds equipment
  • Assist other technicians as assigned to troubleshoot, repair or replace building and grounds equipment or systems

MECHANICAL:

  • Use appropriate tools, materials and methods to perform mechanical tasks in a safe and efficient manner
  • Repair or replace gaskets, drive belts, bearings, couplings, etc. on support machinery such as air compressors, compactors, pumps, etc.
  • Repair conveyors by replacing conveying belts, gear boxes, couplings, drive chains or belts, bearings, shafts, sheaves, sprockets, etc.
  • Repair or replace components on automated cranes, elevators, sorters, diverts, palletizes, packaging and shrink wrap machinery
  • Perform skill level appropriate PM tasks on facility mechanical equipment
  • Assist higher level technicians while installing, troubleshooting and repairing any facility mechanical equipment or systems

HYDRAULICS AND PNEUMATICS:

  • Perform pump down, pressure discharge and isolation procedures to make systems safe before performing maintenance activities
  • Troubleshoot and replace seals, couplings, check valves, regulators, etc. on small air compressors and hydraulic systems
  • Assist higher level technician in troubleshooting and repairing more complex hydraulic or pneumatic system failures then do assigned tasks
  • Repair or replace cylinders, directional valves, hoses, actuators and other small system components on powered equipment
  • Repair or replace control valves, pressure sensors, switches and other basic control components on operating equipment
  • Perform skill level appropriate PM tasks on hydraulic and pneumatic power systems and facility operating equipment

HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION:

  • Clean evaporator and condenser coils, fans, condensate pan and drains and replace filters on HVAC package units
  • Use manifold gauges and thermometer to determine operating conditions, provide data to higher level technician for evaluation
  • Assist higher level technician in installing, troubleshooting and repairing HVAC units below 30 tons capacity
  • Technician must attain a Universal A/C license or certification to be allowed to access the refrigerant circuit
  • Perform any other skill level appropriate PM tasks on the facility HVAC equipment and water chillers

FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS:

  • Secure actuated local wet system to repair water leaks, replace sprinkler heads, switches, etc. and report system status
  • Reset local wet system to operating condition
  • Assist higher level technician in troubleshooting, repairing and replacing failed components in facility fire suppression equipment
  • Perform skill level appropriate PM tasks on a dry fire suppression system

ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC:

  • Repair or replace lighting fixtures and replace light tubes or bulbs
  • Use schematics, diagrams or drawings to locate local source of power supplying an individual unit of electrically driven equipment
  • Know location and layout of the facility sub-main power distribution equipment and areas served by each motor control center
  • Correctly use basicelectrical test equipment such as a volt meter, amp meter, multimeter and Ohm meter doing basic troubleshooting tasks on AC and DC power with voltages from 12 volts DC to 480 volts AC
  • Troubleshoot, repair or replace simple electrical components such as fuses, breakers, switches, small motors, heaters etc
  • Troubleshoot, repair or replace I/O devices on simple PLC controlled dock levelers, trailer restraints and other simple equipment
  • Assist higher level technician in repairing failures in more complex electrical equipment and systems
  • Assist higher level technician when troubleshooting and repairing complex PLC or computer control systems, VFD's etc.
  • Perform skill level appropriate PM tasks on electric power, driven and controlled equipment.

WELDING:

  • Perform Fire Watch duties for higher level welders and PM welding and metal working equipment
  • Prepare equipment and materials for welding by cutting, grinding or heating as needed
  • Braze and cut metal equipment using an Oxygen and Acetylene torch
  • Make simple repairs to equipment using an electric arc welder or Oxyacetylene torch
  • Assist higher level technicians when making more complex repairs or fabrication that requires metal working and welding
  • Perform PM tasks on welding equipment
  • Follow proper Company standards for Hot Work.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

  • Stay informed by attending team meetings, reading bulletin boards and technical bulletins
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) related to work order (WO) completion
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) related to parts requisitions (Req's) completion
  • Complete accident or incident reports per company policy

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 2-4 years of experience in Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Welding, Hydraulic/Pneumatic systems, Construction Trades or Air Conditioning Maintenance

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Lift 20 lbs or more on an occasional basis
  • Standing, stooping, walking, bending and climbing.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures ranging from -20 to 130 degrees.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work standing, sitting, stooping, bending, or in a prone position.
  • Must be able to work with hands over head.
  • Must be able to climb and work from a ladder.
  • Must be able to work from elevated work platforms - manlift, scissor lift, catwalk, and silo
