This challenging position has overall responsibility for performing professional accounting duties to maintain control over expenses, income, assets and liability of the hotel to ensure the security of the assets of the company in a centralized accounting environment.

In this role you will assist the Director of Area Finance, Director of Finance and/or Assistant Director Finance with preparation the Budget, Strategic Plan, and Goals program. Perform or assist in the performance of month-end closing and manage daily accounting activities for completion, including day-to-day operations and assignments of Accounting staff. You will input General Ledger entries and journal vouchers as required and prepare tax reconciliation, payments, reports and investigation as needed while you complete monthly, quarterly and annual tax filing as required by the state, city and federal agency.

The role will perform or assist in performing balance sheet reconciliation's and bank reconciliation's and review and verify accounts payable input and output, accounts receivable posting and billing, and maintain the daily income report, ensuring all necessary schedules are completed in a timely manner. You wil manager other Accounts Payable and AR-related duties and prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports in accordance with reporting calendars, ensuring that all reports are submitted on a timely basis as you perform financial and statistical analysis, forecasting, and complete special projects as needed. You may perform additional accounting functions such as reconciling gratuities for payroll, maintaining contract logs, auditing or approving payments to vendors or agencies, reviewing the work of Income Auditors, and filling in for Director of Hotel Finance or Assistant Director Hotel Finance as needed in their absence and assist with other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

FINANCIAL RETURNS

  • Review and verify accounts payable input and output, maintain the daily income report, and ensuring all necessary schedules are completed in a timely manner. Manage AP, preparing monthly invoices for other IHG hotels, Retail Outlets; monitoring house banks/investments; analyzing/investigating cashiers' overs and shorts, etc.
  • Perform or assist inthe performance of month-end closing. Input and reconcile all income for closing. Prepare reports, verify Trial Balance, andrun Financial Statements for management review.
  • Input General Ledger entries and journalvouchers as required. Ensure all dailytransactions are posted and updated in a timely manner and in accordance withgenerally accepted accounting principles. Maintain control over bookkeeping functions for the hotel to includepreparation and review of information posted to subsidiary ledgers as needed.
  • Prepare tax reconciliations, payments,reports and investigation as needed. Maintain necessary records and back up documents required to balancetaxes. Complete monthly, quarterly andannual tax filing as required by the state, city and federal agency.
  • Perform or assist in preparing balance sheetreconciliations and bank reconciliations.

PEOPLE

  • May ensure all subordinate staff or other accounting clerical staff members are properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their job functions.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments. Key departmental contacts include Catering, Sales, Reservations, Accounting, Front Office, and F&B Staff.

GUEST EXPERIENCE

  • Interact with outside contacts:
  • Guests – to resolve billing disputes and answer questions; to provide service to accounts
  • Regulatory agencies – to ensure compliance with governmental regulations and contractual agreements as needed; to coordinate external audits
  • HMG Accounting staff and Dir Regional Hotel Finance – to obtain or provide information

RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS

  • Supervise the Accounting department in the absence of the Assistant Director of Finance & Accounting
  • Manage daily accounting activities for completion, including day-to-day operations and assignments of Accounting staff. Plan and organize work, communicate goals, and schedule/assign work to ensure all accounting standards are maintained. Alert management of potentially serious issues.
  • Participate in the taking of inventories and verification of extensions on a monthly basis. Assist with conducting monthly meetings and distribute minutes as needed.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports inaccordance with reporting calendars, ensuring that all reports are submitted ona timely basis.
  • Perform financial andstatistical analysis, forecasting, and complete special projects as needed.
  • Audit payroll
  • May perform additional accounting functions such as reconciling gratuities for payroll, maintaining contract logs, auditing or approving payments to vendors or agencies, reviewing the work of Income Auditors, and filling in for Dir Hotel Finance or Assistant Dir Hotel Finance as needed in their absence.
  • May assist with other duties as assigned.

Requirements include some college plus 2 years hotel accounting or auditing experience including management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. We desire a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred. You may be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

Other:

  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently.
  • Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are used often.
  • Must be able to devise, prepare and maintain spreadsheets using various software systems, and must have knowledge of computerized financial reporting systems and programs.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
