Provides timely and accurate pharmaceutical care, including but not limited to procurement, storage, preparation and distribution of medication and IV solutions under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.

The Pharmacy Technician is a support person to the Pharmacist and department. The incumbent also contributes specialized skills in medication preparation and distribution while considering the standards of practice and pharmacy regulations. Under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the pharmacy technician transcribes abbreviated and symbolized information from physicians' orders onto patient medication profiles through manual and computer entry; selects and prepares medication and pharmaceutical products, including intravenous admixtures; assists in dispensing and distribution of unit does medications; maintains pharmacy equipment; generates unit dose and intravenous admixture labels; and transports pharmacy merchandise. The pharmacy technician has the ability to perform these functions in all areas in which pharmacy services are provided. Additionally, the technician may perform nondiscretionary tasks related to the processing of a prescription in a licensed pharmacy under section 1793.1 of the California Pharmacy Law.

Current California Pharmacy Tech License is required for this role.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

* Able to use a computer efficiently.

* Able to perform functions related to compounding, packaging, labeling of medication products from bulk to unit dose.

* Perform sterile parenteral preparation procedures using proper aseptic technique.

* Must be able to work in a fast-paced/high volume working environment requiring extreme accuracy, attention to detail and achieve work results in established timeframes.

* Ability to maintain adequate stock for unit dose medications, cart fill area and bulk medications, solutions, and IV sets for nursing units.

* Familiar with medical terminology, pharmaceutical product names and pharmacy calculations

* Working knowledge of a hospital pharmacy is desired.

* Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission, Title XXII, DHS, DEA, FDA, and USP.

* On year related experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
