Summary

JOANN is looking for a Store Design Intern that will support store project floor plan production for all company projects requiring plans; New, Remodel, Tests, SSR's or Chain Rollouts. Typically assigned tasks aligning with Store Planning Coordinator level work. The Dept. also determines an individual internship project to be assigned to the design student. The project objective is strategically created to align with a current JOANN goal or objective as well as offer the intern a relevant learning experience.

Over 12 weeks, some of your assignments will include:

* Assist the Store Planning Team in completing fixture plans including the final fixture plan and details, fixture designations for vendor takeoffs, plan check against the planning checklist, and final floor finish plan, electrical plan, and equipment plan for use by other internal parties.

* Support the remodel process by interpreting store survey information, updating existing store plans, documenting scope of work, and preparing phase plans.

* Print, copy and distribute plans to other departments, vendors, the field (Stores), and the Project Team.

* Maintain current plan records on the internal files and on the website.

* Attend plan reviews and select vendor meetings to gain an understanding of the process and decision factors in Store Planning and retail design.

* Assist in creating proper drawing blocks in the system for fixtures and signage to utilize the system for takeoffs and order lists.

Development Aspects:

* Store Planning -- Design Theory and Space Planning including overview of relevant codes and ADA accessibility, merchandising practices and operational/ customer service action plan.

* Fixture design -- including overview of engineering needs, cost estimating and vendor relations.

* AutoCAD technical skills.

* Presentation and Communication skills.

* Project Organization and timeline management practice and skills.

Requirements

* Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture. AutoCAD technical experience -- at least 1 semester of class and prefer 1 year of drawing projects in CAD Sketchup or other equivalent 3D drawing program; minimum 3.0 GPA.
