Job Description

The receiving/ stockroom department performs receiving, store inventory, issues materials, ensures that stock and supplies are adequate, and are stored in a manner that preserves their quality. They make recommendations regarding non-usable, slow-moving and excess stock. They also resolve discrepancies between inventory and stock-control records.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all receiving functions to maintain smooth flow

  • Coordinate arrival of inbound freight so as not to overload the dock at any one time

  • Perform and oversee all materials movement from receipt or manufacture point to final storage location avoiding bottlenecks in movement

  • Receive and count stock items, and record data.

  • Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards.

  • Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors.

  • Store items in an orderly and accessible manner.

  • Mark stock items using identification tags and labels

  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas

  • Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities.

  • Provide assistance or direction to other workers.

  • Dispose of damaged or defective items, or return them to vendors.

  • Prepare and maintain records and reports of inventories, shortages, and goods used or issued.

  • Issue or distribute materials, products, parts, and supplies to customers or coworkers, based on information from incoming bills-of-materials or requisitions.

  • Purchase new or additional stock, or prepare documents that provide for such purchases.

  • Compile, review, and maintain data from contracts, purchase orders, requisitions, and other documents in order to assess supply needs.

  • Confer with engineering and purchasing personnel and vendors regarding stock procurement and availability.

  • Recommend disposal of excess, defective, or obsolete stock.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience working in a stockroom

Strong working knowledge of MS Word and Excel

Self-motivated and detail oriented in a fast-paced, priority changing environment
