Job Description

CNC MILL DEPT. SUPERVISOR

The purpose of the position is to supervise the MILL Production Department. This includes planning, organizing, monitoring, directing, and evaluating the Departments production effort and coordinating these requirements with the Director of Operations, Productions Managers, other Department Supervisors, Mangers, and employees to ensure the timely production of quality parts and products. The incumbent is a member of the Production Department’s Supervisory Team.

  • Approximately 15% of the duties of this position will be administrative supervision of 5 to 10 subordinates. Supervisory duties include, but are no limited to, the following:
  • Recommend approval/disapproval of leave.
  • Complete employee performance reviews.
  • Participate in disciplinary action process.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety/Personnel/General Policies.
  • Assist Human Resources with counseling employees regarding attendance punctuality.
  • Recommend employees for recognition.
  • Assess employee training needs.
  • Ensure cross Training Plans/Goals completed.
  • Ensure new hires are properly trained, which includes Vista, machine operation, Department procedures, etc.
  • Recommend staffing levels.

Responsibilities and Duties

The remaining duties involve technical supervision of subordinates and coordination of Department workload, which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate all work within the Department.
  • Ensure jobs are pre-staged when ever possible, which includes:
  • Router review.
  • Write programs as required - Program, edit programs, complete set-ups, run parts, etc. as required.
  • Determining tooling/cutting tool needs.
  • Ordering tooling/cutting tools.
  • Pre-pulling tooling/cutting tools.
  • Determining/reviewing in-production Operator inspection requirements.
  • Ensuring material is pre-staged.
  • Maintain clean, organized, efficient, and safe Department work area.
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Complete/review set-ups.
  • Ensure timely movement of parts to the next operation.
  • Monitor material inventory and notify Management when stock is low.
  • Recommend appropriate Router/Inspection/etc. changes to Management, which includes correcting cycle times during production runs, set-up times, etc.
  • Ensure machines receive regular maintenance and document as required.
  • Ensure quality standards and procedures are maintained and followed.
  • Continually look for ways to improve efficiency, quality, and reduce cost.
  • Monitor, identify, and work towards preventing scrap.
  • EXPERIENCE WORKING ON LARGE MACHINES (450's or larger) THAT WORK ON A PALLET CHANGING SYSTEM IS A BIG PLUS!!
