SALES MANAGER / GENERAL MANAGER: POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Overview: 
WCKR/WLEA is looking to fill a newly created position: Sales Manager/General Manager. This is a excellent position for someone with sales and management experience who is excited about running an established sales team and bringing a creative, new energy to a local business. This is a high-level position, so we are looking for experienced candidates, candidates who know how to lead teams effectively, generate new revenue sources, and embrace technology. This is a dynamic position, one with great room for someone to take a leadership role at a station with a history of serving the businesses and the people of Hornell, the Canisteo Valley, and the Southern Tier. Description: 
• Responsible for day-to-day station sales operations and achieving revenue goals.
• Effectively manage the station sales department, including inventory, pricing, hiring staff, and maintaining market visibility.
• Oversee all aspects of operation with a principal focus on sales growth.
• Prepare and manage the budget. 
• Develop/implement strategic goals for each radio station. 
• Grow and add value to the business while working to exceed annual sales targets.
• Represent company to key client accounts and community. 
• Regularly participate in local community events as a key community partner.
• Develop new business opportunities for the brands including digital events and other non-spot revenue programs.
• Manage overall direction of the market; monitor and evaluate the activities of the competition.
• Foster a professional and positive work environment, leading by example.
• Ensure compliance with government regulations. 
• Oversee maintenance of all station records, reports and submissions.
• Confer with senior management to discuss station policy. 
• Create spot, non-spot and digital sales opportunities.
• Establish overall tone and direction of the stations and set department priorities.
• Attend face-to-face calls with Account Executives.
• Control and manage department expenses.
• Motivate and train staff.
• Provide weekly revenue/pacing reports to ownership or ownership’s designated representatives.
• Gather information from advertisers and listeners to improve program quality.
• Develop and execute strategies to meet or exceed sales goals
• Work daily with ownership or designated representatives as needed.
• Willingness to expand outreach through new media, especially social media. 
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: 
• Sales and management experience. 
• Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills. 
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to serving the businesses of Hornell and the surrounding area. 
• Highest level of integrity and commitment to professional excellence. 
• Demonstrated ability as a self-starter.
Preferred Qualifications: 
• Creative, idea-generating, progressive, hands-on style of management.
• Familiarity with needs of rural/small town businesses (familiarity with Hornell and surrounding region strongly preferred). 
• General Sales Manager experience in foreground radio. 
• Ability to manage and motivate personnel. 
• Willingness to bring new ideas to generate revenue. 
• Strong background in Strategic Account Management, sales training/leadership, pricing and budgeting required.

WLEA and WCKR are radio stations located in the town of Hornell, New York. WLEA has been on the air since the 1940s; WCKR since the 1970s. WLEA is a newstalker, WCKR is a HOT AC station.
