JOB DESCRIPTION:  The Staff Nurse and the Charge Nurse provide safe and effective nursing care in the assigned area(s) in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Hospital and within the framework of established policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing Services. As a key team member in the clinical area, the Staff Nurse and Charge Nurse promote a climate of effective performance and learning through role modeling, willingness to learn and teach, and availability to patients and staff.  The Charge Nurse organizes, manages and coordinates unit nursing services on assigned shift as delegated by Nursing Administration.  JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Education: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing or baccalaureate program required; Current licensure as a Registered nurse thorough the State of Arizona.  Experience:  • Clinical experience in a psychiatric setting preferred;  • Charge Nurse: Minimum one (1) year in psychiatric nursing or one (1) year experience as a Charge Nurse;  Knowledge/Skills: • Must have ability to communicate effectively. • Charge Nurse - Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability. • Must be able to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations; • Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions; • Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles; • Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures; • Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion; • Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads an work assignments on a constant basis; • Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal. • Must have math skills to enable calculation of drug dosages and infusion rates. • Must possess a valid Arizona Drivers License in order to transport patients and/or staff, or drive hospital vehicles.   MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITON:  • Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training, and annually thereafter. • Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation upon hire and bi-annually thereafter. • Must possess or obtain Handle with Care within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter • Must be at least 21 years of age and possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain a valid card. • Must complete all required mandatory inservices annually. • Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire; PPD skin test required annually or chest x-ray tri-annually thereafter.
