Pacifica Hospital of the Valley is an Acute Care Hospital in the SFV and currently has an available position for Director of Behavioral Health Unit (BHU). The Clinical Director of BHU is a member of the nursing management team who assures the provision of effective, high quality patient care on the Behavioral Health Unit. He/She demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the psychiatric needs to the patients served on the unit. He/She demonstrates knowledge of the principles of LPS guidelines. He/She must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's needs and provide the appropriate care, including level of psychiatric care, needed for the adult/geriatric patient group. He/She implements strategies and programs consistent with the organization mission policies, goals and objectives. The Clinical Director develops and sustains an environment on the unit(s) that supports excellence in clinical nursing practice; he/she is accountable for managing human, fiscal and other resources to assure quality and effective patient care. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Remains current and informed regarding standards set by appropriate local, state, and national professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and government. Acknowledges responsibility for self-development in both clinical and management areas. Participates in interdisciplinary committees within the institution that focus on patient care issues. Oversees the unit quality improvement program. Assures action is taken appropriately to improve patient care. Actively supports mission, goals and policies of the Hospital. Develops, implements and supports policies that are developed for nursing practice to meet changes within the healthcare environment. Consistently serves as a role model to nursing staff and a mentor to colleagues.  Unit/Department Responsibilities: Assumes 24-hour accountability for the requirements of the unit; recommends and implements changes necessary for a positive work environment to include but not limited to: Staffing patterns that meet the complexity of nursing required by the unit(s). Supplies and equipment. Maintaining budget within specified parameters. Defining education goals for the unit. Translates institutional values, goals and objectives to staff and others in a positive, professional manner through, Plans and conducts regular staff meetings at least monthly, actively participates in nursing/hospital committees. Conducting daily rounds, Lead weekly treatment planning sessions. Monitor and verify each discharge. Forecasts short- and long-term goals relative to unit systems and operations consistent with organization strategic plan. Fosters an atmosphere of open communication with staff and physicians.  Staff Responsibilities: Sets mutual and realistic goals and objectives with staff members and monitors staff progress. Provides for and maintains adequate nursing staff through appropriate recruitment and retention efforts. Evaluates the performance of nursing personnel on the units; coaches and counsels appropriately. Encourages individual, as well as collective, staff development to provide career mobility. Manages personnel issues per policies and contract guidelines. Patient Care Responsibilities: Defines and implements the mission, objectives, policies and standards for nursing care for the Behavioral Health unit. Provides for and evaluates the nursing care for behavioral health patients and their families in support of medical care and pursuant to the mission and policies of the hospital. Communicates collaboratively within the unit and interdepartmentally to enhance the quality of patient care. Effectively coordinates patient care by conducting unit rounds to surveying the therapeutic milieu and providing critical thinking problem resolution as needed on BHU. Oversees all Interdisciplinary Patient Care via treatment planning per Title 22 requirements. QUALIFICATION/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Current license in California as a registered Nurse; BSN preferred. Prefer knowledge of Title 22 of the CCR, CFR, LA County, DMH, LA County Patients' Rights. Prefer 3 years acute clinical experience with knowledge of the specialty area(s) required. Prefer of one-year progressive management experience required.
