Associate Dean for Academics and Faculty Development Job Description:
The Associate Dean for Academics and Faculty Development reports
to the Dean of the College of Human Sciences and provides
leadership and administration to faculty of the College in
accordance to its guidelines, University policy and/or government
regulations.
The position is a half-time appointment in the Office of the
Dean with the remaining 50% of the appointment served as a faculty
member in one of the academic departments within the College (i.e.,
Nutritional Sciences, Human Development and Family Studies,
Department of Design, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community,
Family and Addiction Sciences, Hospitality and Retail Management,
and Personal Financial Planning), and will involve teaching,
research and service activities commensurate with their half-time
departmental appointment. Candidates who have very strong records
of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the
proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored
research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply.
Service duties include program-building, as well as
commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the
department, college, and university is expected.
Specific
Responsibilities:
The position affords exciting opportunities to: a)
Develop/support new and existing distance learning programs and
courses. b) Promote, coordinate and manage off-site campus academic
activities. c) Oversee the Family and Consumer Sciences Program. d)
Review and coordinate department and program accreditation
processes. e) Manage curriculum issues in coordination with
departments and programs. f) Oversee the College component of a TTU
self-study. g) Manage and coordinate with departments concerning
assessment issues. h) Oversee the Great Plains Interactive
Distance Education Alliance. i) Coordinate and oversee faculty
development activities. j) Review and coordinate pre-tenure,
tenure, and post-tenure processes. k) In conjunction with
Department Chairs, coordinate and manage annual faculty reviews and
the evaluation process. l) Manage teaching evaluation related
activities. m) Promote teaching excellence within the College. n)
Manage faculty operating policies. o) Review and manage faculty
grievances. p) Oversee faculty award processes. q) Oversee/promote
the College strategic plan for community outreach and engagement.
r) Provide general support to the Dean to fulfill the overall
mission and vision of the College of Human Sciences. s) Interacting
with and guiding department chairs. t) Serve on committees as
appropriate.
Minimum
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a
discipline related to Human Sciences and qualify for tenure at the
Associate or Full Professor level in a given academic department
within the College. The preferred applicant will also have
significant previous administrative experience such as Program
Director, Assistant Chair or Chair of an academic unit. The
applicant should also exhibit exceptional communication and
interpersonal skills, as well as a demonstrated and ongoing
commitment to serving diverse populations.
