 Job Summary:


Primary Responsibilities:   Plan, manage, implement and monitor all day-to-day activities of the resort sales department to include office efficiency and production, inter-departmental relationships, ensuring focus and high standards of work ethics of all department staff.  Oversee the weekly, monthly and quarterly production of the sales team, schedule weekly sales meetings; motivate team to increase sales. Support and contribute to the positioning of Mauna Kea Resort as one of the premier resorts in Hawaii.  Insure all sales activities and bookings are focused to yield maximum revenue per room occupied.


Essential Duties: 

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the resort sales department to maximize efficiency and production ensuring high standard of work ethics of all department staff.
  • Prepare annual department operating and CIP budget.
  • Plan and implement an annual sales and marketing plan.
  • Establish department procedures, policies and standards.
  • Set objectives and sales goals and measure results on a monthly basis; make changes to plans to help drive and achieve the greatest revenue result.
  • Oversee the weekly, monthly and quarterly production of the sales team, schedule weekly sales meetings; motivate team to increase sales.
  • Contribute to the development of special promotional programs to stimulate new business and revenue.
  • Monitor all quotas for sales calls and production for direct sales personnel.
  • Meet regularly with resort executive staff disseminating information on sales activities, review new business, business forecasts, competition, projects, VIP, customer activities . and budget versus actual revenue and Meet and greet clients as the Director of the department to assist associates with booking process; entertain potential clients; do tour of facilities.
  • Preliminary approval of travel schedules and budgets.
  • Review and approve sales personnel expense accounts.
  • Contribute to revenue productivity of department managing established market segment and territory.
  • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, counsel and discipline department staff.
  • Review, approve and verify department payroll.
  • Approve complimentary or discounted VIP room nights.
  • Participate in PRH Revenue Generating Planning Committee Meeting.
  • Aware of promotional programs offered by the competition.
  • Monitor and approve all purchase requests and office related expenditures.
  • Prepare reports as requested.
  • Represent the resort with BIVB and KCRA.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with other departments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Other Duties:

  • Participate in designated trade shows, service and community associations and clubs.
  • Conduct regular department meetings.

Position Title:  Director of Sales

  • Outdoors to give tour of the resort or greet clients.
  • Must be able to travel off island or out of state.
  • Travel between hotels on the resort.

Work Hours:

  • Must be able to work schedule determined by the General Manager/Hotel Manager.
  • Must be able to work long and irregular hours.
  • Must be able to work in excess of 40 hours per week.

Equipment Use:

  • Proficient in the use of a computer and with the resorts word, spreadsheet and other required software.
  • Ability to use the telephone
  • Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers and facsimile machines.

Communication Demands:

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate in person, over the phone or in writing to guests, employees, potential clients and vendors.
  • Effectively disperse information at meetings or to affected employees and departments.
  • Must be able to do presentations to large or small groups of people.
  • Ability to negotiate contracts.
  • Ability to write manuals, memos, policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • 4 year college with degree in marketing or related field or equivalent in work experience.
  • Skills to effectively supervise and manage the department and meet goals.
  • Minimum 6 years hotel/resort sales and or marketing experience, preferred.
  • Must be personable, tactful, patient, tolerant, assertive and self-motivated.
