Jumbo Drill Operator - Full-time

Job Description:

Jumbo Drill Operators are expected to comply with company, local, state, and federal compliance/safety rules. Specializing in room and pillar mining, demonstrates competency in operations of Jumbo Drills, Single Boom and experience with Cannon Drills is a plus. Jumbo Drill Operators are required to read mine plans and specifications for underground mining, must be able to work in a team setting as well as independently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Procures and transports materials, tools, equipment and blasting agents and accessories.
•  Inspects; scales; rockbolts; screens and straps to achieve control of ground.
• Checks condition of travel way, work area, and equipment and corrects any unsafe conditions.
•  Inspects bolting machine, jumbo drill and other machinery common to mining.
• Shoots grade and center line from pre-determined lines and determines location, spacing, number, inclination and depth of blast and bolt holes.
•  Operates L.H.D. vehicle to muck out rounds and to load broken material into trucks or rock passes or remucks at designated locations.
•  Sets up and operates various types of rock drills to drill blast holes, test holes, rock bolt holes and line plug holes, etc.
•  Procures blasting agents and accessories, loads, primes, times, connects rounds, checks and extends blasting lines, blows air, guards and blasts or sets up for centrally controlled blasting operations.

Qualifications:

• Must possess a valid driver license
• Specialize in Room and Pillar Mining
• 10+ years’ experience
• Attention to detail
• Good hand-eye coordination

Physical Requirements:

• Must have the ability to stand for 6-12 hours on uneven sandy/rocky surfaces
• Must have the ability to be seated for up to 6 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
• Must have the ability to lift 60 to 80 pounds without mechanical assistance
• Must have the combined ability of sitting, standing, walking large workloads
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Manual dexterity
• Must have the ability to distinguish between colors
• Must have the ability to climb on and off equipment and ladders
• Must be able to work at heights of 30 – 50 feet
