 POSITION SUMMARY


As a member of the Global Tax Accounting team, the Manager, Tax Accounting & Reporting, will be responsible for both domestic and non-US components of income tax reporting.  This position will partner with the Director, Global Tax Accounting (Domestic) and be responsible for the reporting of income taxes for U.S. federal and state jurisdictions including preparing and reviewing information for the overall analytical review of U.S. domestic tax accounting results and SEC reporting. This position will also partner with the Senior Manager(s), International Tax Accounting & Reporting and be responsible for the U.S. GAAP tax accounting and SEC disclosures for a geographic region, including coordination with Regional Finance and Tax personnel on business, accounting and income tax matters.  The Manager will lead/support efforts to drive innovation and efficiency, including identifying and implementing technology, data and process improvements.


EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
  • Contribute tax accounting technical expertise to support MI’s compliance with all tax-related GAAP and SEC filing requirements. 
    • Prepare and/or review key financial statement disclosures
    • Help coordinate maintenance of current and deferred tax schedules, FIN 48 analysis, footnote disclosures, and return to provision reconciliations.
    •  Work closely with tax planning, accounting, and other business groups to ensure that all changes affecting reporting are accurately reflected.
  • Overall responsibility for non-US components of the worldwide quarterly and annual tax provision process for a geographic region.  Responsibilities include updates and maintenance of non-US entity deferred tax schedules (including US GAAP adjustments, stat-tax differences, NOLs with related valuation allowances), current tax liabilities, and return to provision reconciliations. 
  • Assist with identifying and conveying information and data to Marriott Service Providers (“MSP”) related to the tax provision deliverables.
    • Communicate necessary data and information to provide quarterly and annual provision estimates.
    • Communicate necessary information regarding current year tax planning and business transactions, legislative, regulatory, and/or GAAP changes, and audit changes to ensure the proper treatment in the tax provision.
  • Lead/support efforts to re-engineer business processes and improve reporting functions performed by the tax accounting team.
  • Champion excellence in business ethics and integrity, social responsibility, cross-cultural effectiveness, and associate engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Key Talents and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience accounting for income taxes with strong working knowledge of ASC 740 (SFAS109, APB23, FIN18, FIN48) and SOX 404.
  • Strong business acumen and service orientation.
  • Strong business process and project management skills; capable of developing effective project plans and processes, ensuring compliance with existing processes and producing quality results.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective client relationships and promote a client service orientation that delivers customer results.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.  Ability to articulate issues to a variety of individuals at multiple levels within the organization.
  • Experience with identifying, designing and implementing technology and process changes that result in demonstrated improvements in the global tax accounting function. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - Able to develop and maintain effective relationships with a broad group of stakeholders
  • Ability to guide, train and communicate effectively with associates on technical tax issues.

Education and Professional Certification

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or similar business concentration
  • MBA, Master in Taxation or Master in Accounting degree strongly preferred
  • CPA preferred
