POSITION PURPOSE

Lead and manage The Home Depot’s Third Party Discovery Response team to efficiently and effectively ensure the protection of the Company’s rights, as well as ensuring that it complies with its legal obligations related to litigation where the Company is not a party.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES, AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Manage third-party discovery including but not limited to complying with subpoenas in civil and criminal matters, screening and responding to various information requests and preservation of evidence demands to The Home Depot, and preparing witnesses for depositions and trials. 
  • Assign and supervise outside counsel as appropriate. 
  • Provide assistance and support to Human Resources and Asset Protection departments in responding to discovery relating to associates/employees and loss prevention cases. 
  • Assist legal partners with responses to government/regulatory civil investigative demands.
  • Manage non-wage garnishment compliance for The Home Depot. 
  • Partner with Finance in processing vendor garnishments. 
  • Ensure timely answers are filed and assign and supervise outside counsel as appropriate. 
  • Provide assistance and support to payroll department in escalated associate wage garnishment matters.
  • Provide timely reporting on relevant matters.
NATURE AND SCOPE
  • Reports to Associate General Counsel – Commercial Litigation.
  • Direct reports include 1 professional and 1 support associate.
  • A significant amount of time working with outside counsel and cross-functionally with HR, Finance, Payroll, and Asset Protection.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:

Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, fumes or odors.

Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Additional Environmental Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 8 years
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions, there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Additional Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Paralegal experience preferred, in particular with a large law firm or significant-sized company.
  • Eight plus years of experience is preferred.

  • Supervisory Skills
  • Ability to communicate with supervisor and direct reports
  • Litigation experience
  • Strong Logic Skills
  • Computer Literate/Comfortable with Database Structure Conflict Resolution
