In this role, as part of the Automation team, the Lead Automation Engineer-Vision Technology will be instrumental in the design and development of the next generation Supply Chain Automation for Target. This role will play a lead role in the successful deployment and launch of automation supply chain technologies and processes. This individual must have exceptional software development and problem solving skills, strong business judgment, and demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams. The position requires a subject matter expert in vision system technology, lighting related to bin picking, robot guidance, and product traceability type of applications. This individual must be capable of defining the requirements and specifications, as well as driving the design, development, validation and launch of complex automated solutions at scale with minimum supervision. This individual will lead R&D vision imagine 2D and 3D technology developments. The targeted solutions will involve many types of automation systems including robotics, bin picking, sortation and conveyance, controls systems, vision systems, sensing technologies and process development and optimization. Target is looking for an individual that is a self-starter who can work independently and provide a level of creative and innovative thinking that is essential to the supply chain design process. This position will be based in Sunnyvale, California and will report to the Director of Automation Engineering organization.
 
About you:

• Minimum Bachelor of Science in Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• 6+ years of experience in manufacturing, distribution and/or logistics experience desirable
• Deep experience with factory automation, vision systems and software implementation, instrumentation and data acquisition-analysis in a high volume operation.
• Strong hands on experience in machine vision technology 2D and 3D, hardware, software, lighting and vision image processing for applications like bin picking, product location, robot guidance, product traceability, etc.
• Machine learning experience is a strong plus.
• PLC / PC Based, HMI/Scada programming languages experience as well as deep experience in machine troubleshotting is a plus.
• Experience in robotic technology is a strong plus.
• Working experience of communication protocols like Ethernet IP, TCP/IP, Ethercat, DeviceNet, etc.
• Working experience implementing data collection architecture for Industrial Internet of Things is a plus
• Working knowledge of C++, Python, C#, HTTP, HTML5, JavaScript, JSON
• Concept development, prototype testing, engineering design, and collaboration with 3rd parties on vision system solution, algorithms, system build and integration testing
• Experience defining, developing, validating and deploying of multi-million dollar, complex capital equipment systems.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple ambiguous projects at the same time with a moderate degree of variation and uncertainty.
• Experience developing improvement initiatives, creating roll-out strategies, & deploying them across an enterprise scale organization
• Ability to travel to interact with internal and external business and technical partners
