The Network Engineer II leads medium to small projects involving the planning, design, installation, and level 3 technical support of LAN/WAN data, voice and video information technology solutions with a focus on but not limited to data center design, web hosting/ecommerce environment design, strategies and compliance. The Network Engineer II ’ s responsibilities are to configure and implement enterprise platforms, local and wide area networks, telecommunications, along with management and associated diagnostic tools to support new and existing technology architectures. The NEII makes decisions independently on Information Systems solutions, problems and methods. The knowledge and expertise required at this level of work usually results from progressive work experience in large enterprise or retail environments.

Participates/Leads the planning, evaluation, testing, selection, implementation and level 3 support of:

• Network architectures, Local & Wide Area Networks
• Data Center Technologies
• Internet Connectivity
• Network Management and Diagnostic tools

The Network Engineer II collaborates with junior and senior engineers on networking technologies, standards, methodologies, and procedures.
Participates and sometimes leads development, implementation, and maintenance of network standards and documentation.
Participates in developing long-term strategic, capacity and performance planning objectives and goals.
Participates in network infrastructure audit activities and provides evidence as required.
Participates in network infrastructure security remediation activities
Coordinates efforts to isolate and resolve network and security related issues.
Researches new technology and evaluates viability to meet or exceed business requirements and goals.
Cisco Certifications (CCNA/CCDA/CCNP).

Experience with:

• Routing
• Switching
• Cisco ASA
• Payment Card Industry (PCI) and Sarbanes-Oxley security standards.
• F5 LTM/GTM
• Quality of Service (QOS)
• DNS/DHCP
• Voice over IP
• Packet capture, analysis and troubleshooting tools
• Network Management and monitoring tools such as NetMRI, CA Spectrum

Three to Five years of planning, design, and implementation experience in network infrastructure and networking in a large enterprise retail environment.

In-depth working knowledge of at least 3 of the following network related platforms: Cisco routers, Cisco switching, Nexus, F5 load balancing systems, remote access systems, network management and capacity planning systems.

Working knowledge of the following:

• Payment Card Industry (PCI) and Sarbanes-Oxley security standards
• IP addressing
• OSI model
• Ethernet
• Wireless
• EIGRP, OSPF, BGP
• MPLS
• NetFlow

Working knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and security platforms, including:

• Nexus 9k/7k/5k/2k, 6500, 4500, 3750, 3560, 2960 switches
• ISR / ASR routers
• ASA
• Load Balancers

Experience using diagnostic and management tools such as:

• Netscout, Wireshark,
• NetMRI, CA Spectrum, MRTG, Cacti

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field
6+ years of experience in an IT support environment with technical experience in distributed technologies and systems development. Additional equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
2+ years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Master's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field
2+ years of experience leading technical or project teams with or without direct reports
2+ years of work experience in an IT role requiring interaction with senior management (i.e., Director level or higher)
3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization
3+ years of experience working with third party IT vendors and/or systems solution providers
3+ years of IT experience in the retail industry
3+ years of experience writing technical documentation in an infrastructure development environment
