The Online Merchant is responsible for Visual Display and Merchandising, taxonomy, navigation, findability, search, marketplace clean up, email proofing, marketing channel liaison, offer management, competitive reviews, single point of content on product management and site testing. The Online Merchant is often responsible for executing actions that make up any gaps in the forecast or plan during the season.

The role entails optimizing the online shopping experience on Kmart.com. The role assists with driving site traffic through external marketing efforts while increasing conversion through site presentation and product merchandising. Web analytics are used to identify and react to areas of opportunities.

The position interacts with the E-commerce management team, Full Line Store (FLS) merchants, Merchandise Planners, Promotions, Operations, and Merchandising Support teams.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Directs customer centric strategies and execution for multiple categories to drive profitable sales
  • Influences and develops relationships with the full line store merchants to ensure Sears.com/Kmart.com has best-in-class product assortments for key categories.
  • Influences and leads cross-functional teams to enhance customer site experience in order to drive profitable sales
  • Partners with full-line store partners to determine product assortment and pricing in order to drive sales
  • Develops up-sell and cross sell strategies based on customer feedback channels, market share analysis and industry data to maximize sales for online business
  • Optimizes existing site features and functionality and influence over the creation and prioritization of new functionality
  • Uses Leadership skills to develop strong relationships, drive strategies and remove barriers to driving business growth
  • Develops promotional plans to build brand awareness, create differentiation in the market to retain and acquire customers.
  1. Business Analysis
    1. Review daily sales reports.
    2. Analyze web metrics and identify areas of opportunity.
  2. Site Optimization
    1. Check site daily for broken issues and ad errors.
    2. Maintain and enhance site navigation paths such as search terms, flyouts, left navigation and visual categories.
    3. Create product pages to highlight trends and promotions.
    4. Assure products are in appropriate categories with correct images, titles and descriptions.
    5. Identify and react upon opportunities for category and product page enhancements.
    6. Pull coordinating items together into a collection.
  3. Marketing
    1. Communicate weekly promotions and product launches to marketing teams.
    2. Provide top search terms to paid search team.
    3. Update SEO copy to maximize natural search visits.
    4. Locate marketing assets in internal databases.
  4. Promotions
    1. Provide assets needed to create promotions.
    2. Test deals and troubleshoot errors.
  5. Inventory
    1. Review inventory reports to identify products needing special attention.
    2. Assist inventory team with locating product assets.
Job Requirements:
  • BS/BA degree, Required
  • 2-3+ year's related professional experience in Retail and/or E-commerce
  • Experience within apparel, baby, and beauty categories preferred
  • Prior e-commerce experience is highly desirable. Role specific abilities/skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and retail math literacy.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision making skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of desktop applications and Windows-based programs.
  • Passion for e-commerce merchandising.
