Duties and Responsibilities

This is an independent ARNP Practitioner at the Lantana / Lake Worth Health Center providing services in a health clinic to a low risk urban population. Services will be provided in the Maternity Clinic and Family Planning / STD Clinic. General supervision will be by the Center Director. This position will have access to the following system(s): People First, E-mail and Internet, HMS for the purpose of reviewing patient medical records, EHR for reviewing and documenting in the patient electronic record. This position will view, enter and print data from the Health Management System Assessment Module based on established guidelines and release information. The scope of practice will be within protocols established mutually between the Medical Lead, Director and County Health Department guidelines and in conformance with the Specialized Certification. Incumbent is expected to communicate (by phone, e-mail or in person), in a courteous and professional manner at all times. This position is designated as a sensitive position and the position is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with the DOH and Palm Beach County Health Department Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures.

This position may travel to provide services at other Centers. Confidential Data Set(s): Clinical Information.

Performs a complete physical appraisal of Maternity and Family Planning patients appropriate to background and training. Complies and evaluates medical histories and physical findings in the patient medical record. Identifies and evaluates problems presented by patients. Initiates treatment according to established protocols. Monitors medications and alters medication according to variation patient's response within established protocols, such as but not limited to pelvic exams, pap smears, venipuncture, skin tests, cultures and smears.

Plans and conducts health education for patients and family and includes educational concepts in all phases of health care provided.

This position will be amendable to attend conferences, meetings and activities associated with Maternity, Family Planning. Assist in the preparation of grants relevant to Family Planning or Maternity at the discretion of Administration.

ARNP may dispense any medication covered by the ARNP's protocol and prescribed by the ARNP for the patient directly to the patient. Dispensing shall be done in accordance with all State and Federal laws and shall be done following the policies and procedures of Florida Department of Health Palm Beach County including all associated record keeping requirements. The act of dispensing includes selecting the correct medication from stock, reconstitution of product if required, affixing a patient label to the bottle or entering the appropriate information on a pre-labeled container, providing the patient with a medication information sheet, having the patient sign the Offer to Counsel Signature Log, and handing the patient or their legal representative the medication.

Participates in the collection of statistical data for program evaluation and audit purposes of the Quality Assurance Program.

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Word, E-mail, Internet and Excel).

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, customer service skills, communicate verbally in courteous and effective manner.

Knowledge of Health Management System - Clinical Information System.

Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques.

Knowledge of Electronic Health Record.

Ability to effectively interview and assess the health social needs of clients.

Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Ability to perform a complete physical assessment and evaluation for patients appropriate fot training.

Ability to initiate treatment plan according to established protocols.

Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):

This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210.8.22 or 8.27 or Certification as a Physician Assistant in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes.

Valid Florida Driver's License.
