Purpose of Position:

To assist physicians and nursing staff in the delivery of patient care and support operational functions in the Pediatric Liver Transplant office.

Responsibilities*

* Support the Pediatric Liver Nurses and communicate patient care information with RN and other faculty/staff via MiChart Notifications.

* Maintain and Triage Inbasket messages

* Address non-medical questions (lab order requests etc)

* Que up medication refill requests in MI Chart

* Image and process outside records and lab results

* Follow up with nurses/MD as appropriate for medical questions; i.e. Prior Authorizations.

* Place orders (labs, tests, and medications) in MiChart as per provider

* Assist with Camp Michitanki Registration Process

* Scheduling appropriate tests and appointments upon request from MLPs/MDs, call patients with appointments/procedure dates, test prep instructions, or other information under direction of the RN. This includes disseminating info at discharge of new transplant patient for their first 12 follow up visits, routine labs orders, and demographic updates.

* Enter outside lab results into OTIS.

* Participate in weekly transplant team meetings.

* Participate in patient visit planning/coordination.

* Maintain supply of patient education materials.

* Pick up, drop off, and transport mail as needed to mail room.

* Deliver outside slides, CD's, etc, to appropriate areas.

* Prepare/complete FMLA, Make A Wish, and other school forms and letters.

Required Qualifications*

* High School Diploma or GED

* Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 3-4 years of experience.

* Experience in panel management including provider registry data and exception reports.

* Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

* Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.

* Communicates effectively and be receptive to delegated tasks from nursing staff.

* Demonstrate characteristic of being self-drive in completing tasks in the diverse setting of the procedure unit.

* Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills

* Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients is required

Desired Qualifications*

* MI Chart Cadence Scheduling

* Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems. Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

* One year of experience as a medical assistant is desirable.

* Prior experience assisting in procedures area

* Excellent Attendance.
